I was unsure if I already had an account here. I know I had one on a big poker chip forum, but apparently it must have been somewhere else.
Anyway, I didn't plan on joining in here, just lurking around and read up on the chips I needed, order, and be done with it. And I definitely wasn't planning on doing an introduction either, but I received a great welcome here on the forum from several members already, so I feel like I owe it now
My name is Rickard and I live in Gothenburg, Sweden. I've always been very interested in poker and the likes. I played a lot when studying and was the first one of my friends to purchase poker chips. This was around 2003 and poker chips weren't even available in Sweden (not easily at least), so I had to order from US, and though they were cheap and with metal-core, they still were amazing at that point, and I played with them constantly. Oh, the joy!
With the poker boom, it felt like everyone and his grandmother were playing, both live and online. I was never a high stakes gambler, but I did manage to grind some income as a summer job when studying, as well as an extra side-income. I read books and watched everything available (WPT, WSoP, HSP etc). Today, however, I can somewhat regret that I didn't go more serious for it.
I always wanted to upgrade my set to a premium one, but as a student, it didn't make sense to spend that money on a true clay set. Eventually, I bought the Casino Style 1003 chips from The Poker Chip Company to avoid that metal-core, but I always glanced at the high-end chips that looked so insanely good.
Today, I totally regret that I didn't go for the Modern Clay set or a Paulson set. They were around $1 per chip at that point, which is cheap compared to some of the prices now.
I rarely play live poker now, but have some friends that like to play. Purchasing a premium poker set makes little sense since I wouldn't use it that much. But now I finally have another reason to buy one: Board games!
Last couple of years have been crazy with new board games constantly, and I play them a lot. I have purchased metal coins that is commonly used, but for some games, they aren't enough, or less practical than poker chips would be. Honestly, I'm not convinced that they would be used that much, since customized metal coins still would look better, but at least I have an excuse to upgrade my set.
So now I'm constantly reading about poker chips, and last week I have dreamt about poker chips every single night. I'm seriously damaged, and some pictures on this forum doesn't make the situation better. I need help. Help with buying the right set of chips!
