Hi guys!

I am very very new to this space. Me and my buddies are moving into a house for college next year and are making a poker room. I am looking for some recommendations, guidance, advice, etc on how to go about getting good chips and cards. We are college students so we are not the richest people in the world, but we are willing to pay for quality. Any help would be appreciated I really mean that.

Also any advice on anything poker related is more than welcome!

Welcome ... for what you've asked, PCF is the right place.
Cards are easy enough, set ups are cheap enough (sans Kem) to get one of what you like, play with them then add on your favorites.
Chips ... you're going to see a lot of suggestions on here. Many are pricey. Use the search function, check out the Classified section, and read, read, read. The first time you open your proverbial wallet should be to get samples.
Tables, toppers, buttons, cut cards ... it's all here.
May God have mercy on your bank account.

Welcome!

There are a number of Iowans on here. Where are you from, and where are you going to school?

I’m in Burlington now, but grew up in Bellevue, near Dubuque.

Welcome to the community !

For chips: it all depends on your budget and what your game will be, but generally I would recommend a set of Ceramic chips.
They are low maintenance, and will probably last you forever, you don't have to stress about them being damaged (college rooms might get crazy :) ).

Since you are in the US, look at BR Pro Poker and order a set you like from them - it will not break your bank.
I suggest ordering from the stock options (=not creating your custom set), so you can order addons easily or replace lost/stolen chips.

Have fun!

Welcome…….. you are at the right place. A lot of very informative folks on here, willing to help.

Welcome to PCF!

What do you guys play cash or tourney? I have some cheap chips I can donate to you to hold you over till you get good ones.

DM when you are able to!

Pat

I am from Waukee and I attend the University of Iowa. I am familiar with Bellevue as both my parents grew up around there!

Hey Pat!

We would mostly be playing cash games. 0.25/0.50, 0.50/1.00, and 1.00/2.00. It will not let me DM you unfortunately because I am brand new I think, but please reach out with anymore advice.

Thank you.

Yup, gotta earn it kid!

I really recommend buying chips that are in good mint condition. I made mistakes buying chips not in the best condition and ended up buying more and more. They maybe a good deal, but if the chips have major flea bites and warped, believe me they will just collect dust when you get better chips.

At the very least, get chips that you feel confident that you could resell.

appreciate the advice Joe! I am also looking into the used market as well. It is a little hard to find the micro stakes chips in my price range, but I will keep trying.

Welcome, lots of good knowledgeable people here and tons of great info and products, enjoy!

Go Hawks! I have my graduate degree from Iowa. Great school.

For poker and chips, you are in the right place. Welcome!
