You guys need to check out this new video! I wish I could afford a monthly gtox subscription - what a great learning tool. His videos focusing on teaching his girlfriend GTO are excellent.

For me this video is less about watching what the opponent is doing and more about using the solver to investigate range construction: meaning showing how he's using the solver to in this example to make decisions about constructing the flop cbetting/checking range in order to achieve the right frequencies. He walks through how he is using the solver to explore EV between different combos to guide his range construction away from the table. Sure, we know that we want to cbet generally at X% frequency, but how do we go about selecting the right combos when building that cbetting range? He walks through identifying combos to add using EV differences and simplifying strategies using the concept of EV regret, arguing both that simplification aids in allowing a human to use/implement a strategy correctly (versus being unable to implement a very complex strategy) and that some of the solvers complexity (e.g. raising pot 2%) comes from the need to be balanced in a sim when both player's strategies are perfectly known - this level of balance isnt necessary in the real game, again arguing that simplification poses little risk and using EV to simplify.

So bring a computer to your next cash game session in the casino, watch what your opponents are doing, make adjustments to your software, and then boom!!! You are playing poker correctly.

Do you have to make sure you are heads up preflop before you use any of this?

the point is that you can come up with basic heuristics that cover different types of situations to get a close approximation without having to know every spots solution.

Heads up/3way/4way > initiative > in/out of position > how much the board favours your range > board texture

These things will impact your frequency and sizing in a consistent way, and roughly in that order. Are people calling too much? Folding too much? Even if you choose to deviate it still benefits you to know what the measuring stick that “too much” is seen relative to.

The goal is to have a plan for constructing your cbetting range on a wide variety of flops before you go to the casino ;)
This is all about off-table planning. It does work better when you're playing online and you can look at a stat like cbet flop in your hand history and see that you need to increase your frequencies and develop a strategy. Then as Stuffy said you can deviate from your baseline strategy based on opponents overly loose or tight play.

If you are going to use a solver, yes they all work off post-flop heads up scenarios.
Maybe not great for those $1/$3 sessions where every pot goes 6-ways!!

It doesn’t solve multi-way pots but it doesn’t mean you can’t use it to make a more educated guess as to how you’d approach it.

programs like Pluribus (which is not publicly available but has a similar method of arriving at a solution) tends to choose similar sizing in even when more players are introduced. It’s not identical but for instance,

You raise and get called by the bb, flop is k22 rainbow

Pio will bet on the small side with most of its range and the ev regret of not choosing large size with a small number of 2x hands and bluffs is minimal.

Pluribus similarly if it opens and is flatted by two or three players is overwhelmingly going to choose the small sizing on the flop.

Having smaller bet sizes on dry boards is the lesson.
