My thoughts on Tina’s and forum perspective (2 Viewers)

My label guy is the one who makes the labels for Tina so I wanted to make sure that he is not the leak ;)

There is a specific label factory close by. That guy is a top guy that I have worked with for many years.
 
If it allows more people access to a better poker experience, then I’m for it.

Downside? IP theft

Upside? Reduced waste when you don’t know how to design or build chipsets.

There are different segments to almost every market, and this one just another example.

No shame in ceramics at all.

As someone that is very much the topic of this thread it creates quite a few thoughts:
- I am fairly new to the site
- I have a great deal of interest in Tina’s
- I will not be making the financial commitment to CPC’s or Paulson’s in the foreseeable future

This site caused me to learn Inkscape, led me to purchase and upgrade a Barrington table, multiple types of plastic cards, support a small business I otherwise would have never found, and greatly increased the enjoyment of the game for folks that come to play at my place.

Without this site I would’ve been content with a 6-8 person game. Now I want to get to 3 full tables, add bounties and create an event folks want to attend.

I have followed the two most important rules
- I no longer use Dice chips
- I own a hot dog roller

But … if not longing for Paulsons means I do not belong here than so be it. I am not knocking Paulsons or CPC at all, they seem great. It is unfortunate that new members have to be looked down upon for wanting to expand beyond the capabilities of traditional chipmakers. The day may come where I want genuine Tiger’s, IOC’s etc … but right now the set I want to bring to life and put into play is best achieved through Tina.

Early last year I was playing with dice chips in home games, but by the end of this year I'm likely going to close out with 7 Tina sets, 3 CPC sets, and a RHC set and call it good for likely a long time.

My view.. I like Tina. I like CPC. I like Paulson. Others also good. Dice chips bad.

Each chip type has factors that make me personally appreciate each one without diminishing the others.

This is what makes it for me. Had I not found the site I'd probably still be running dice chip games on kitchen tables. The home game and hosting aspect keeps me here and I'm happy to see all the custom sets get play, I love the fact that Tinas allowed me to run 5c/10c poker for brand new players with a relatively cheap fully custom set. I've spoiled them, they think Tiger Palace is a Chinese food place!


Tinas are an affordable entry. If not for the no molds I most likely would have just purchased even cheaper slugged options and thought everyone on here was nuts.

Since then I've started building a cheap Paulson set which I hope is the end of this but no guarantees. This place is dumb.

Did you create a custom chip or did you choose an existing one?
 
Clay isn’t all about grail sets. Just buy some RHC’s, you’ll be glad you did.

That said, Tina’s are fine. Obviously the volume of posts is obnoxious to clay-preferred members. Just ignore it.
 
Super new here also, a custom set of Tina's for my poker room design will be ordered next group buy, also tailoring it slightly to my life long friends= priceless!!! We've used dice chips for years, bicycle paper cards, and a dining room table to play on. I'm working on renovating my basement to upgrade our poker experience. My friends are going to feel like they are playing at the Chesterfield, ha ha because they're so used to playing in my dining room.

Since I stumbled across this site, I've learned about not only Tina's, I've learned about Paulsons, RHC's, CPC's... I've learned a ton from all of you about plastic cards(kems' copaqs,broken arrow,faded spade etc..), and the long lasting value to use them, I'm ordering a Gorilla gaming table any day now, never thought of introducing bounty chips to home game but that's coming, bought several cool looking dealer buttons from different people on here, plaques, cut cards, chip racks, display cases, storage cases, room lighting and so much more I left out. I plan on getting a large tv to watch, and two smaller ones to display blinds, beer fridge, etc.... This site has also taught me about chip/game security, buy ins, tourney blind structure, fixed game amount chips needed, once again and so much more.....

My point is my friends are going to have no idea what hit them when this is all done, it's a surprise. It's all because I found this site, everyone here has been great at answering questions, giving ideas, helping design a chip, custom topper etc.. It sounds like this site originally was designed for serious chippers, collectors, high end CPC customs and over the years has expanded...in ways some OG's like, and some ways OG's hate. But for me this site is a great resource for valuable poker/gaming information with knowledgeable people. Lastly because of this site, yes my Tina's are on order but I would love CPC rounders set someday, it's was classic growing up with that movie, it's dream for now but maybe I'll save a little here and there, in a year or two upgrade to some custom clays. I saw a Mexican rose colored Tiger chip the other day someone posted it looked amazing. To me, this site is absolutely fabulous, and I'm so glad I found it and met new people. PCF has expanded not only my poker chip knowledge but also how to properly host a poker game knowledge ten fold. Sorry if I went off topic but this site to me is so more than just clay, custom or RHC chips forum, it's an unlimited poker room resource with good knowledgeable people willing to lend a ear, and to give good tips and advice.

Surprised nobody’s talking about tariffs here in regard to Tina chips and value proposition.

In general I think (affordable) Tina chips fill a nice spot for a lot of folks , which is great!

Tina chips are ceramic where Paulson,CPC,TRK are clay. Personally I enjoy the clay feel and sound. If they’re worth the premium is different for everyone. I’m a collector so they’re worth it for me. The average person just trying to get a game together with chips that are better than dice - Tina all the way

Tariffs leads to politics so its better to let that one alone for now especially since things are changing daily. But even if Tina's double in price to over $1 each, there's still no competition for customization and variety out there. Real casino chips murdered run for over face value plus labels. CPC are $5 plus and BR Pro has like 4 selections to customize.
 
It’s only because they used to be less expensive that anyone complains. They are not unattainable.

Just curious what the “value point” for Tina’s is. At what price do you say “these things aren’t worth that?”

I guess the closer the price of Tina's get to actual Clay their value goes down
 
I can't speak for other people, but for myself I spent a fair bit of time lurking before I made an account. Without this site, I'd have some non-dice sluggos and call it a day. Instead, I have in my possession or on the way:

A dragonara palace milled and relabeled cash set (nearly complete, still have a few chips to mill and label)
1 mixed mold ASM hot stamp tourney set with extras
2 custom CPC sets on the way
1 halloween limit set on diecar
3 tina sets (web mold, sun mold, and no mold)
several racks of hot stamped solid ASM/CPC chips from which I could easily assemble something resembling a playable set.
a mixed mold rat rod set I'm working on building
idk how many singles I just thought were cool (part of what started the rat rod set)
a couple misc racks

And that is after clearing out a bunch of other stuff I got but didn't need any more.
I doubt I'm the norm, but I've seen several folks come through with a similar story arc since I joined. And some folks who jumped in even harder, designing sets and helping others along their journey. If for every one of us even 10 people come through, order a tina set from justin, and then disappear I'm fine with that.

I also don't think it's fair to say that if you can only afford Tina you can't afford poker chips or to play poker. Some folks have $3-400 of disposable income for something like poker chips and if they want to spend it on a Tina set more power to them. Maybe they only play 5c/10c and good luck finding a Paulson set to do that with without at least over labeling. Would also cost you more than you likely have on the poker table for an entire year combined at those stakes.

At the end of the day, does it really cost you anything not to crap on other peoples' enjoyment of the hobby, even if it isn't the same as yours?

The elitist basher has reared his head so he could prove to everyone that IF you're using Tina chips your just not a good as those that don't. Didn't take long to confirm the OP's point.

The sets that I've donated are good enough as a scoring system for the once a week game at a retirees (on a fixed income) house. They replace 20 year old China clays that are crumbling apart. They were happy and thankful to get them. I'm thankful I was able to find sets that would serve the purpose at a price I didn't mind donating.

They aren't chippers and really don't know the difference, but, they do open their homes to host a friendly game, and, I greatly appreciate that. I'll occasionally bring one of my Paulson sets and inevitably the conversation turns to questions about this chips...I guess you could say that Tina chips are like marijuana, they're a gateway drug. I'm getting people hooked, with no sense of superiority because their level of knowledge isn't the same as mine.

But thanks to ecricket for reinforcing exactly what the OP was referring to. Again and again.

I'm not being passive, I'm telling you that you come across as a prick. You repeated several times that Tina's were just good enough and that for you, and those like you, that's just not acceptable. The elite, like you and yours, require more from everything in life. You were so obtuse that you couldn't help but do exactly what the OP was writing about.

I feel reassured that you are you and were able to express that to everyone.
