Charley Brown is famously known for his ever-hopeful efforts to kick a football. But each and every time Lucy yanks the ball away while Charley whiffs and ends up flat on the ground. But he never learns, each time Lucy offers, he tries with the same predictable results.
I have lived in Texas my entire life. Gambling of all sorts have been proposed at every bi-annual session of the legislature since the 1980's. There have been some successes in the past. Horse and dog racing. Bingo parlors, the lottery and scratchers, 50-50 charity and other raffles. All have been approved by the legislature.
But not Casino gambling, nor poker. Every two years there are bills filed to authorize those types of gambling and every session the bills die due to inaction. Never say never, maybe this time will be different - the same motto Charley Brown uses and the local gaming interests. It COULD happen. It has been an item on my radar for 40+ years and so far, no luck.
We need not give up hope, just should have clear-eyed expectations. The best we reasonable can hope for is a continued "blind eye" approach from local and state officials.
We are never getting our day in court here in the USA - that is a fairy tale for children and rubes. No one, even if they believe they are innocent, is going to risk their freedom and net worth in court where the authorities can charge someone with crimes yielding decades in prison and resulting in six or seven figure legal bills. Even asking for the civil forfeiture to be overturned is risky as it may provoke the DA/AG to file criminal charges.
