My Journey As A Professional Poker Player (16 Viewers)

Poker players are notoriously unreliable, tried to get the plo at Silks running today like past week, one guy showed, 2 guys running late

I hopped into tourney instead and chipping up

Here's a A.M.A. based question for you - feel free to not answer if you think this gives too much away about your bankroll size.

Do you cash out at the end of each night, or do you have a standing account with one or more casinos? The topic came up recently on a podcast that was (briefly) discussing casinos going cashless, and the Director of Gaming Operations mentioned that some players, in particular poker players, prefer to keep their money with the house, thereby being effectively cashless (at least in part).

It seems like a good idea. It saves a little time and it's safer (can't get rolled in the parking lot), but you would need to have bankrolls in multiple locations, plus enough padding at home for living expenses.
Safety is a huge concern for the players I know. Most of the players I know have safety deposit boxes at the mgm and/or Maryland live. Others just color up at the end of the night and keep the chips So as not to advertise a big win. Very few cash out at the end of the night. All use the Parking valet so when they leave there are people around.

I'm not the type of player cashing out 10k.

my big wins are usually a few thousand.

Plus the parking garage is very close to the poker room and security

ICM chopped 4 ways after we paid bubble $100

I got $320 as 3rd in chips
Typically, I love tournaments, and cashing is always fun... but Jeebus, that "win" is going to cut into your $/hr rate. I now know a little more as to why pros start so late in many tournaments and play so aggressively early.

I was only there to try and get the PLO game running. One guy showed, two pthers called saying they'd be late, others never showed

So I figured, "when in Rome..." since I don't normally work Wednesday nights but was already there and didn't feel like driving to another room

My buddy who came for the PLO max late regged last night and wound up being the one who took 1st place $$$.

WP Anthony....25% rake  (is that the normal rake ? almost $20 on $75 BI...seems excessive)

Small buyin tourneys always have excessive rake. But the people who generally play them aren't the sort to notice or care

Closing in on the final table last night I picked off a short stack who shoved AT and I had AJ, but she spiked the T on the turn.

At the final table 6-handed and my buddy raises in EP, short stack shoves and I'm planning to reshove my AK from the blinds, but then a large stack on the button reshoved who I barely had covered, so wound up folding it.

So I lay down my AK and the big stack shows AQ and I start kicking myself when the short stack shows QQ............until the flop brings the case Queen in the door, then I pat myself profusely on the back "good laydown!"

Oh yeah, about midway through the tourney my buddy has built a larger stack, and is in the BB. UTG shoves and he calls, kid shows pocket 2's and my buddy T6 offsuit. Buddy flops a gutshot straight draw, and binks it on the river and the kid loses his shit and storms off, telling my buddy to "kill himself" as he goes outside to smoke (oh the irony!)
