What are your guys' thoughts on the various monte carlo chips? Thinking about purchasing some 14g clays.

I assume you are not talking about the Monte Carlo Resort and Casino or other similarly named casino chips, and you are talking about the budget Monte Carlo sets available online. My 2 cents. I know there are TONS of dissenting opinions out there but IMO I LOVE them. So here is my story, I bought a 500 qty set on Amazon back in 2002. Those ones had rough edges, but that was not a big deal for me. This year I bought an additional 50-cent hundred-stack for my home poker games. On this stack the edges were much smoother. Of course I know they are not the best out there, not by far, but they are not slippery, with good weight to them (~14g), sound fantastic when stacking them together, clear denominations and distinctive colors. Just recently I start going to a local Poker Club, and guess what they use? Monte Carlos. So I guess it depends how much of a "purist" you wanna be, how much money you wanna spend, and what's your tolerance for other people's greasy hands handling your chips. If your answer to those is "low", well Monte Carlos are for you!

They are the quinessential starter chip. I'm not a fan, but unlike most here I don't just hate ABS chips. That said, I think Outlaws are the best ABS chips on the market and are even cheaper than Monte Carlos.

they aren't clay, but they will make your game 10x better than most of the games on earth. You've come to one of the few places that is filled with people that have better chips. You can stay if you want to, but save yourself $1000 and just buy the Monte Carlos and impress your friends, screw us.

^That. Monte Carlos are prefectly engineered to impress people that know nothing about poker chips and they do it very well. Clear denoms, golden holographic ring, a design mimicing Matsui (a real chip company that is highly regarded), crowns, and a name synonymous with rich people gambling. Its the perfect peacock design. I can resepect that.

I can't think of anything better than Pabst Blue Ribbon 180 pack, Skoal, Monte Carlos, Hooker Juice, misogyny, and Hold'em all night long! YEEEEEHAAAAWWW!!!!!

Is there anything better than a 38-cent plastic stuffed with metal poker chip?
