I assume you are not talking about the Monte Carlo Resort and Casino or other similarly named casino chips, and you are talking about the budget Monte Carlo sets available online. My 2 cents. I know there are TONS of dissenting opinions out there but IMO I LOVE them. So here is my story, I bought a 500 qty set on Amazon back in 2002. Those ones had rough edges, but that was not a big deal for me. This year I bought an additional 50-cent hundred-stack for my home poker games. On this stack the edges were much smoother. Of course I know they are not the best out there, not by far, but they are not slippery, with good weight to them (~14g), sound fantastic when stacking them together, clear denominations and distinctive colors. Just recently I start going to a local Poker Club, and guess what they use? Monte Carlos. So I guess it depends how much of a "purist" you wanna be, how much money you wanna spend, and what's your tolerance for other people's greasy hands handling your chips. If your answer to those is "low", well Monte Carlos are for you!
