After a recent trip to LA and getting to play some LHE for the first time in ages, I’ve been re-bitten by the bug that is limit poker.

That said, I look around Bravo now and notice that it’s even less available than it was 5-6 years ago when I was playing more. Talking Stick doesn’t get near as many 8/16 tables going as it used to, doesn’t look like the 30/60 runs in Blackhawk anymore after NLH was approved there. I think Parx had a 15/30 that I haven't seen pop up since I’ve been back observing. Hell, even The Orleans seems to have fewer tables going than it used too.

Had hoped to schedule some trips in the future, but looks like I’ll just have to travel to LA, or learn NLH if I want to continue playing?

Are there any locales that I’m missing that still get good LHE games that I could put a pin in for a trip?

They get it running most weekends Friday thru Sunday at Monarch
It’s running right now actually, but yes much less than it was pre NL restrictions

Sounds like you’re from or familiar with AZ poker.

Talking Stick gets 8/16 and 20/40 regularly on the weekends, sometimes 8/16 during the week. 4/8 all the time obviously.

Mixed games and Omaha are becoming (happily) more prevalent. There is usually a 20/40 3 game running at Talking Stick and often a 40/80 or 75/150 on the weekends.

Gila River and Desert Diamond are stuck at 4/8 for LHE. 8/16 very rarely runs but they often have a 4/8 Big O or 8/16 mix going.

Ah, so they moved it from Ameristar to Monarch.

Yes, I’ve never been to TS, but I’ve known it was a good location. Watching it the last couple of weeks on bravo, though, it just seems like they get very few tables of 8/16 and 20/40. Are the games any good? What mix are they playing in the 3 game?

Dramaha, Big O, and Super Stud/8. The game is basically a bunch of solid pros and the occasional Big O rec player taking a shot. Super Stud is where rec players get into trouble because they don’t anticipate everyone having great starting hands with 4 cards being dealt and 2 discards before 4th street.

When the 40/80 3-game players drop down to 20/40, they get quite chummy with each other and it gets very difficult to get any value. I stopped playing it because 8/16 Big O/Stud8 was a lot easier to take home racks with. Way different player pool and nobody really plays both games well.

Unfortunately, 8/16 mix stopped running once Gila River Lone Butte starting spreading 6/12 Dramaha/Big O.

Man, I wanted to love this game, but I’ve played it probably 6 times and watched it another 5-6 and it seems like the only party winning is the house. I’ve never seen anyone cash out 3 racks at this game and most people come in for 1-2 racks. I hate to say it but the game kinda sucks. Like, nobody has had a big stack, even briefly. There are some bad Dramaha players at the game but the equities all seem to even out. I’ve seen players punt 2 racks over a session but nobody at the table is up significantly.

I’m actually hoping the game dies and 8/16 mix starts running at the Stick again. I’ve cashed out of that game with 5-6 racks semi-regularly and it’s very active with alot of spots, even during off-hours.

8/16 HE at the Stick is fine. A lot of bad players chasing just like at 4/8. I don’t play it super often - just when I’m waiting for Big O or a mixed game - but it’s been an OK game. I think my biggest win was +3 racks and change and I wasn’t faced with any difficult decisions.

Thanks for the detailed post. I’ll keep TS on the map. My wife really likes Phoenix, so an added bonus. I’ll have to shoot you a message when we make it out that way.

Yeah definitely. Technically it’s Scottsdale but only 15 minutes from the airport. I host occasionally as well if you want to play in a low stakes mixed game. I’m in the East Valley, 18-22 min from the Stick.
