To be honest, I do not understand, is there any need for such a large number of lower chip?
Have they not lie huge mountain that is not used?
how to calculate the number of chips in the set?

Huge mountains of chips, like large aircraft carriers, denote power and importance. It's hard to project power and induce fear in the minds of opposing players unless you have a big stack. Of course, in lieu of a big stack, in certain games, a tire iron can effect the same results if swung freely, accurately, and with great conviction.

Still one of my favorite limit sets ever.

One one hand, I'd love to meet you one day - truly. On the other, I think meeting you means playing some poker with you, and by all accounts, playing poker with you likely means just shipping you my stack. My best play might be just to deal for you in hopes of earning tips. All other plays seem -EV in the long run.

While technically true - I do have over 2000 $5 Empress chips - the limit set pictured is comprised of $25 chips. Useful for a $.50/$1 or $1/$2 game. The $5's would be good for a $.10/$.20 game, but that plays a little light for my preference.
