I've had these Paulson Top Hat & Canes forever. What is this set worth? (1 Viewer)

So someone said they were confused as to why this thread exists. I saw a reply to the OPs post that rubbed me the wrong way so i responded to see if that person is the type of person I thought he was. He responded the way I thought he would which was to call me illiterate and a sucker. All the OP was asking for was the price of the chips and he gets response about how his set is inadequate and not high end enough. So I start chain yanking. I do not really care about high end or low end or any other end. I haven’t called anyone names. However I’ve been called names and had my intelligence insulted. I’ve had people say the long timers are educating me. I’m an educator and that’s not how you educate. Maybe we should reflect and start being a little kinder to each other. Or maybe I’m just taking things the wrong way. I’ll just stick to the guitar forum I’m on where the atmosphere kinder. I’ve never seen anyone insult another person’s guitar. We are just happy to have them and happy that we get to play them. As far as being a long timer I’ve been playing poker since 2004 and I understand what you are saying. No need for the insults. It’s what I expected. So farewell everyone and enjoy insulting each other. For those of you who were trying to help I thank you. Sorry for provoking but it the responses were interesting. By the way I know I’m a strange bird. Thanks for your help.
Bout time for an ole fashioned "Ben Book"! Lol

I'd like to chime in just because... if you left for good then he won... but gonna share my story any who!

There is a guy that plays poker in Ohio... I met him a few times at a meet up... his name is Verlle, and older gentleman... nicest dang dude you would want to meet type... but when it comes to poker this guy rebuys and rebuys and rebuys for hundreds each time... playing absolutely garbage cards... you have to wonder "what the hell"? Well the game to Verlle is all about breaking it off in a younger players but with garbage cards so he can talk crap! Give him 38 off all night... Aces he'll! He will fold those! But 38o good luck betting him off of that even post flop! Lol

The dude is well off and lonely, he doesn't have much he spends his money on and trully enjoys getting under the skin of young aggressive players!

What's the point here you may ask? Some people don't have anything better to do and enjoy getting under someone's skin!

Larry, the gentleman spoken about in this post is a pot stirrer and has been since PCF started... I have met the man, call him a personal friend and have sat beside him at the poker table and hope to again soon!

The meme of the Grandad from the Simpsons of the old man yelling at coulds was literally invented for Larry and he wears it with pride!

Soon as you let them under your skin.... they win! All there is to it!

It's the internet... losen up your butt and have fun! (Hello out of context thread) and I have followed along.. that whole don't throw stones thing sure seems to apply! Heavily opinionated against the grain is gonna have some kick back!

Back to the lecture at hand..."what are chips worth?" Classic's on Paulson mold... WTHC on pips mold... this one's better... no that one better! Who cares! As said above they are worth what someone is willing to pay!

This market like others has a roller coaster effect... some say that the "economy" has caught up and I agree. Seeing amazing chips just sitting again when 2 years ago they would have been snatched up even if it wasn't what someone needed... "trade bait" was our only currency for a while. Now cash seems to be King again...

While some want to poop on the Paulson Mold... let em! Who cares! Others will love and cherish these chips as they have for nearly 2 decades now!

Folks all the time on here arguing that 05 CDIs (almost the same chips as the OP) are only worth $3 a chip... others saying the opposite... well this just sold this month

While many folks here would say these chips aren't worth the dollar they cost when new, RHCs, Fantasy, Giant Inlay... to someone else like myself I will pay $5 a chip for every single one I can find for the foreseeable future and have been paying that much.

A wise "investment"? Maybe not, probably would never get my money back out of them. Think I am overpaying? Well go ahead and find them for me for less and I will still pay you the $5 a chip!

Does this mean they are "worth" $5 a chip? Again many here would say "ABSOLUTELY NOT! Those aren't even worth $2 a chip!" But I know a buyer paying $5... go ahead and tell me what they are "worth" experts! They're not making anymore and no one is selling them for less.

Pay what you feel is fair, if you are only in this for an "investment" and not for the love of the hobby... then yeah maybe pay attention to the chipping market, it's not that difficult to follow if you put your time in like anything else. To those doing the "lords work" buying singles at going rates and above, plus paying USPS a fortune like myself to rebuild a piece of history split up and spread to the corners of the earth... I say welcome collectors! Enjoy the HUNT!! In time you will know the True hidden joy this hobby has to offer that set buyers will never fully grasp! Making a set your own because you built it! Never concerned with ohh I have abc invested and its worth xyz... no building it because you trully care about them and dream of the day they are playable again!
