An Etsy seller, offering what s/he claims are excavated Civil War artifacts excavated from private property, tells this story:

Is this at all true?

Here, at center, is what the seller claims is a poker chip pounded flat from a lead ball:

It might be both true *and* b.s. The chip the seller displayed seems way more evenly round than the ones at the Park Service site linked above.
Looks like there is a round one at that link, which could have been a musket ball. The others look more bullet shaped. Doesn't mean the seller isn't FOS though.

I have access to pounds of lead. It is soft and easy to work with. I would be happy to hammer pieces of it into discs for you for the right price. My point is without ironclad provenance or detailed metallurgical proof, anybody could make these.

I have never seen anything that was made from a Civil War Era miniball. However, I have seen modern round balls squished into six sided dice. My Brother used to do a lot of reenacting. His Revolutionary War (I believe) kit included the squished lead ball dice.

I would need proof or some kind of documentation showing that exact excavation and any identifying marks on the “chip” matched what was excavated. Otherwise you’re just getting what FDLmold is willing to send you lol
