I've gone through numerous sets over my 13 years down the rabbit hole that is poker chip set collecting. The only constants I have are a heads up set of Sahara Casino Paulsons (that I have kept as they were my first casino chips), and my ASM custom cash set. The latter has seen more table time than all other sets put together.

I've a bit more time of late to devote to poker and am looking at a custom tournament set. All well and good so far.

One of my (many) sets to cause me seller's remorse is an ASM Rounders replica set on the Horsehead mold, part of group buy I think about 10 years ago.

I'm a sucker for clean, simple and classic. Not that I don't enjoy a Duy's Palace BCC set (greatest custom set of all time imho), or indeed many other more elaborate sets.

My current line of thinking is getting a set with the same edgespots ($1000 may be a bit different) but instead of the now stock sets with a bear (means not much, and we don't have any here in Scotland), have a Beagle, more or less just black, clipart style.

We have a beagle, I had one as a kid, so it would have a personal feeling. But I can't help have a nagging doubt that I should be doing more as it is a 'custom' set...

So am I mad to consider what is effectively a semi-custom set given the outlay?

Hey, if you like beagles and the clean simplicity of the Rounders design, go for it. Do whatever makes you happy. Imo, the KBG donkey set is a personalized classic. Yours can be too. (y)

This is like asking a bunch of junkies if you should try meth and crack mixed. Hey, it’s not my thing, but if it works for you...

It's nothing like that.

I would never put Paulsons and CPC on the table at the same time!

(Now if you had a second table...)

The KGB Rounders set has been used as inspiration for several custom sets (donkeys, dogs, even cows IIRC). Clean design with simple but classic colors, hard to beat. Go for it (y)

Now that, would tilt me something shocking.

Thanks for the replies folks, not everyone's cup of tea I know but I appreciate the feedback and opinions, particularly from some of the CT/PCF old hands.

I'd probably go circle square mold I think, jockey feels the best imo but just not in keeping... then again, bar Olivia's, what has a hat and cane got to do with anything?

From memory/guess work can any experts confirm if these are accurate colours for Rounders chips, or even close -

$25 - green/day-glo peach
$100 - black/day glo green
$500 - purple/arc yellow

I think the $1000 horse head in the OP is yellow/lavender?

On the Rounders chips CPC sells now, the colors are indeed Green with DG Peach, Black with DG Green, and Purple with DG Arc Yellow. I can’t tell you for sure about your pic of the 1k chip; the current Rounders chips use Canary with a 414 Blue spot for the 1k. I would guess the spot is lavender, but I can’t say for certain from your pic whether that’s yellow or canary.

That dog certainly looks way better than a plain solid black one. More to think about.
That's all @Johnny5. I couldn't even find a suitable picture of my pup (among the thousands I have) let alone design his likeness.

Good luck with your project!

Thanks for that. Pretty sure canary yellow didn’t even exist when they were made, but I’d prefer it.

J5, the very patient man, did my customs, I may well join the line for his services again. Cheers!

If it is what you want, do it! I did my own twist on the Rounders set as well. While I did make it a little more custom than you are thinking, it doesn’t have to be if you are happy with the chips as they are.

So many more ideas now, slight change of edge spots, differing inlays between chips...

I had a pitbull a few years ago too, beautiful dog.
