Hoping to share my journey to collecting chips around Southern Mississippi.

Background: I'm originally from Alabama, but all of my family (including brothers) are from Mississippi. I visited Jackson nearly every month as a kid. I’ve got quite a few memories with family visiting Biloxi on Friday nights in the 1990s and 2000s, it was a highlight of my early years.

Mississippi Targets: Nothing in particular right now. I’ve set a 2023 goal of collecting anything that someone is willing to sell that’s connected to Southern Mississippi. I’d like to purchase a variety to get a better understanding of all the casinos and chips in Gulfport/Biloxi area.

I’ll add more pron as I continue collecting.

Here's my starting stack!

Did some cleaning and weighing today. here’s some results:
Three-Way Tie for Heaviest RHC $1 in Southern MS:
Boomtown Biloxi — 10.5g
Treasure Bay Biloxi — 10.5g
Goldshore Casino Biloxi — 10.5g

(Goldshore was only 13 chips, so 137/13=10.53g)

I'm attending the CCA convention in Vegas in a few weeks as a first timer. I doubt I'll find many Mississippi chips, but hopeful that I might find a few. Fingers crossed! Here's what I'm particularly interested in hunting during the trip:

I'm also keepin an eye out for any good finds for the goodfellas: @louBdub @greenchip @ReallyGoodUsername @bernielomax

I’ll be sharing photos soon on a Mississippi fantasy leaded RHC soon that hasn’t been seen on PCF or the internet I don’t believe. (although the edge spots have def been used elsewhere.)

I’d like to try and share the provenance of them as well. if I have some time in the next week or so, I’ll do a write up

Here’s a sneak peek

happy fourth!

It is with a very heavy heart that I write this one. These chips were a gift to my big brother around 20 years ago. My brother tried for years to give them to me, but I continually refused them because I knew how precious they were to him due to all the happy memories we had together playing with them with family in Mississippi. On May 20th, my brother had a massive heart attack and could not be revived. He and I were the closest of brothers. We've already lost our middle brother some years ago, and after that, he became a bit of a super big brother ever since then, helping me through every step of my life. I’m the only remaining child of my parents, and it’s been the worst experience witnessing them lose two sons. The world has seemed empty since he's gone. I've enjoyed monitoring PCF to keep me distracted these last few weeks. While I was cleaning his place, I saw these and have decided to keep them. As such, I would like to showcase them to you all.

Allow me to introduce a leaded, fantasy RHC Paulson chip set: Mississippi Gaming Commission.

My uncle was the Mississippi Gaming Commissioner for nearly two decades. During his time, he had the opportunity to work with Paulson or GPI somewhere between 1998 and 2003 to create these for his department (someone may have to correct me on the company). After these sat in his office for a while, and recognizing that his family (namely me and my brother and others) loved playing poker every Christmas, he decided to gift two sets: one to his brother (my uncle) and one to his nephew Scott (my brother). We played with them for many years and had a lot of laughs together at the poker table. We never had a quarter denom to play with, and would usually go to a bank to get actual quarters to mix into the set! What a time it was. A lot of the family that played with these have passed and they are missed dearly. I know these poker memories will stay alive with our remaining family. I also think that this is why I enjoy chipping so much because it played such a large role in my early years.

Weights:
$1 are 10g
$5 are 9.65g
$25 are 9.8g
$100 are 9.83g
$500 are 9.63g

It was a beautiful day today in CO so I decided to do a photo shoot:

Sorry for your loss and thank you for sharing the story. Thats so awesome to have that connection with those chips. Any chance of getting the whole set together?

I’m real sorry to hear about the loss of your brother. My brother and I are close so I can’t imagine how tough that experience must be especially having to watch your parents go through it. On the brighter side that is a beautiful and unique set there and I hope that you’re able to play with it often. It is Paulson fansty colors and your story for it is super cool. I believe given the dates that it is likely leaded as well.

Funny you should ask… so I asked my mom to call her brother and ask if he still had the other part of the set. He sounded very uncertain. He was unsure if he still had them stored somewhere deep in a closet or sold them at some point. It’s been over a decade since we’ve all played with these, so there’s no telling. He hasn’t called back to confirm anything, sadly. No clue where they might be. Here’s to wishful thinking though, maybe they pop up in his closet soon though!

So sorry to hear about your loss. I can’t even imagine what these last few weeks must’ve been like for you.

That looks like an amazing set, and I know you are going to make new memories with a new generation using those chips.

I look forward to catching up with you this weekend, and may the rest of this year be +EV for you and your family.

I’m so sorry for your loss. As I get older, I realize how important time with family really is, and cherish it more than I did when I was younger.
Great chips, with incredible sentimental value. I hope you can reunite the whole set!

Blake, I am very sorry for your loss. I can't imagine what it would be like to lose a brother. My brother and I are also very close. The memories of great times with your family will live on and you are lucky to have those awesome chips to remind you of those good times! Make one into a card capper and keep those memories with you everytime you play!

Love those fracs!!!!

I’m right there with ya! The palace fracs seem to be pretty tough to find, and there’s another version (from same casino) of the palace frac that’s even harder to find:
” The new palace Casino“

if I ever get a barrel or more of these unicorns, I’ll gladly add another post and see how they compare!

First time using the Mississippi chips!! Pretty damn excited. I’ve got yellow NCV’s mixed in as fracs to fill gaps, and using the recently relabeled Josh Azteca T5000 as the $5s. Family cash game $20 buy in.

it’s family nights like this I miss my brother the most, but it’s nice to always mention him throughout the game or use his phrases
