In Memory of John Faulhaber (J5 Designs) (1 Viewer)

:( :( :(

We've lost an absolute pillar in the chipping community, John was bar none the best inlay designer the hobby has ever seen, and a great guy. He will be missed but his legacy will live on through hundreds of small pieces of art he helped to bring to life. Rest in peace my friend.

Huge loss, very sad to hear. He did a ton of design work for me for my custom chips sets, DBs and tables. As in demand and as busy as he was he always responded quickly with exactly what I needed.

Terrible loss for the community. He did the design work for my custom set and was always pleasant to work with. Thanks for everything J5.

Sad to hear about J5. I've considered him 'my artist' since 2010 when he did the art for my BCC Suicide King GB. I re-used the art recently for a CPC re-label. He was always professional and helped with keeping projects moving. I'm glad to have had the chance to work with him.

Did he do the art for the Protege chips? I thought he did, but can't find any info confirming.

It actually wasn't, per the man himself, referring to the Protege design:

This design was actually created by a guy named Magus_23 on Chiptalk. It was part of a contest by Sidepot, and he won. My design in the contest was picked up by Sidepot as well and ended up being turned into the 'Le Noir' Paulson set instead.

Shed a tear for John and his family today. Very sad to read.

I feel fortunate to have had the privilege of working with John on several chip and accessory design projects in my short time as a chipper. He set the bar in terms of poker chip design. He'll be missed tremendously.

R.I.P. J5

So crazy to see so many legendary sets, and learn that they are all the work of one man.

If someone knows how to contact his loved ones, I'm sure they would be grateful to learn about this thread.

Damn, sounds like the only things he did better than help us with designs was being a great father, husband, son and just a great human.
J5 designed 3 sets of chips for me and my competition BBQ team logo. Always a true class act.
RIP Johnny.

Very sad indeed. Thought to call John last year at some point, but I didn't 😢. Luckily I had a priviledge to work with him in two chip projects years ago.

One of the great ones has moved on the next level.

He will be missed.

Love ya lots John ❤️.

The Paulson NPS chips were one of my main motivators for joining PCF way back in 2018. I was looking to upgrade from dice chips whilst getting a game going here in Switzerland and they were the nicest chips I'd ever seen at that point in my life. Indeed, the NPS chips were the first real poker chips I purchased and they still hold a special place in my chipping heart today.

Later, I discovered that J5 did the design work on the NPS chips for Apache and Holdempokerchips. So in a way, it was a J5 design that gave me my start in this crazy hobby.

Sad way to wake up. Wish I knew him in person. He was so nice to chat with - I could tell he took pleasure in helping others and this was reflected in his beautiful obituary.

Johnny Fucking Five! God bless the legend, what a genius and superstar of creating poker chip magic. Words cannot describe the thrill of seeing his mock ups for the first time, which just flowed off the pages. A true inspiration to all who had the pleasure of working with him. He was great, at times when I had an idea and he politely said “not exactly how I would do it.” Of course I listened to him! What a sad day, I genuinely loved this man, this is so sad for his family, may he rest in peace. The poker and chipping community will never be the same.
