My garage/poker room has two 8 person tables. I'm looking for advice on the best 600 - 800 chip tournament set breakdown using T-5 thru T-5,000 chips. Starting stack range of T-5,000 to T-25,000

Blind structures will vary, but almost all will be set for a longer tournament as apposed to a turbo tournament.

I host similarly-sized tournaments, usually two tables. Do you anticipate rebuys? I only ask because you need to plan for them, but can also get away with fewer small-denom chips in the rebuy stacks.

For overall set design, if you really like to play wtih 5k-25k starting stacks, I wouldn't include T5 chips in the set. I'm sure you could find a way to use them (e.g., as antes in a T5000 stack tourney), but if your chipset is finite I wouldn't put resources toward them. I would stick to 25-100-500-1000-5000.

For a 5k tournament I would start with 8/8/4/2/0. That won't feel like a huge stack, and you could go 12/12/3/2/0 if you like more chips in play. But that requires a lot more T25 and T100 chips, which won't be as useful (if even in play at all) if you really also plan on playing T25k tournaments.

For 10k tournament I have settled on 8/8/4/7/0, with 5000 chips introduced later coloring up. In a T15k tourney I use this same stack but with a 5k chip to start. I used to use 8/8/6/6 for T10k, which is fine, but I found that once we get deep and short-handed we ended up with unnecessary stacks of T500 chips that aren't as useful when guys are betting in multiples of 1000. And as I mentioned above, if you play with rebuys you can stretch by using something like 4/4/3/3/1 for the rebuy stacks.

I think a T20000 or T25000 tourney might not use the T25 chips, but maybe you really want a super deep start with a 50/100 level. I would probably start with 0/10/4/7/3, or 8/8/4/7/3 if you do need the 25s.

Based on those stacks, if it were me I might structure the set like this:
25x160
100x200
500x140
1000x160
5000x100

That's 760 chips. If you wanted to make it an even 800 you could add a barrel each of 25 and 100. Having a full rack of 5k chips will give you a lot of flexibility and backup for tourneys in this range.

i might try that 8/8/4/7 start on my next tourney... i have to agree the 500's seem to be less important than the 1000 later in the tournament. Thanks for that.

I would not have starting stacks with less than 10 T5s. You just end up making change too much.

This is true. We end up making change a-lot, but we are so use to it. Most tourneys will do 10/10/7 for T1000 or add an additional 2 X500 chips for T2000. at least that's what we have done in the past.

Yeah I think for T5/T25/T100/T500, 10/10/7/x seems right.

Would the T25k use the T 5 chips?

Assuming not we'll also accommodate the minimum (T25/T100/T500/T1000/T5000) 8/8/4/7/3 stacks for T25000 stacks.

So I think you need
160 * T5 (10*16)
160 * T25 (10*16)
140 * T100 (8*16 rounded up)
80 * T500 (4*16 rounded up)
160 * T1000 (7*16 + color ups)
100 * T5000 ( or 80* T5000, 20 * T25000)

800 chips.

Could easily cut 200 chips out if not for the extas needed for base T5 structures.

The T-5 would not be used for any of the lager stack tournaments. My thoughts were pretty close to your breakdown. I kept getting tripped up on the 100 and 500 quantities.

The set I just ordered was
160 T-5
160 T-25
160 T-100
80 T-500
160 T-1,000
60 T-5,000
I was thinking I ordered to many T-100 and T-500's

That should be fine for your purposes, so long as you are okay with using 8/8/4/7 stacks. Plenty of extra T1000s for T25/T100 color-ups, and plenty of extra T5000s for T500 color-ups and re-buys if desired.

Most of my 2-table sets (16 players) are similar to this core breakdown (12/12/5/6/x stacks):
200 x T25
200 x T100
100 x T500
200 x T1000
100 x T5000
-----------
800 chips, which allows for up to 50K stacks (and plenty of re-buys/add-ons with smaller stacks). If wanting to incorporate T5 chips, I just add 160 of 'em.

For your set, I'd probably add another 40x T25 and 40x T100 so that I could spread 12/12/5/6 stacks instead of being limited to 8/8/4/7 for two tables.

Same here, although I consider that set for up to 20 players, some get 12/12 and some get 8/8 if I have more than 16 players. I know you know that :p

The other difference is I’d add 200 T5 and not 160. How dare you have 160 T5 when all the other racks are full?!?!?! :p

Latest set ended up with the following breakown

200 T- 5
200 T-25
200 T-100
80 T- 500
160 T-1,000
60 T-5,000

Thanks for the advice!!
