I think we need to address this - Satty? (2 Viewers)

Pretty sure HS stands for horse shoes now...
For @TheBigTater and all of those that agree with me

To all that do not I offer the following
My answer would be no by definition.

Acronym - noun
1.a word formed from the initial letters or groups of letters of words in a set phrase or series of words and pronounced as a separate word,as Wac from Women's Army Corps, OPEC from Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries, or loran from long-range navigation.

Horseshoe is one word so Horseshoe Casino Cleveland or Cincinnati should be HCC.

Hot Stamp is two words so could use HS as its acronym.

I'm not sure I can live in a world where we're using "satty" to refer to satellite tournaments.
In the below thread, @Trihonda 's repeated use of "satty" (INCLUDING AS A VERB) made me feel an urgency to kill either him or me, and I really didn't care which.

Ill have to check if there is a show us your hot stamp thread. If not I will start one up.

I was watching an Andy Griffith recently, and Barney referred to Thelma Lou as “the cats.” Andy even repeated it to her - “Barney said you’re the cats.”
I can only assume that’s a shortening of “the cat’s pajamas.” This is not okay. Abbreviating slang is just going too far.

Pick the mic back up.

HS is not an acronym.

HS isn't a word. Wac is pronounced "Wac", OPEC is pronounced "Opec", if you pronounced HS as "Hiss" maybe, but I suspect most pronounce it by the letters, "H - S".

That makes it an abbreviation.

Take that Mrs Raymond, my 9th grade English teacher. Maybe I
was paying attention, after all!

I respectfully disagree.

Take the definition a step further to number 2

noun
1. a word formed from the initial letters or groups of letters of words ina set phrase or series of words and pronounced as a separate word,as Wac from Women's Army Corps, OPEC from Organization ofPetroleum Exporting Countries, or loran from long-range navigation.
2. a set of initials representing a name, organization, or the like, with each letter pronounced separately; an initialism.
3. an acrostic.

I guess a better word for the use of the letters in this case might be initialism

Anyway no need for this debate when we know it boils down to HS = Hot stamp

And that's about as dumb as using SD as the abbreviation for Stardust, or SD for Sundowner, or SL for Starlight (or even EP for Empress or AT for Aztar, to take it to the ridiculous extreme). Just because a compound word ~could~ be broken apart and incorrectly abbreviated, doesn't mean that it ~should~ be done.

There is no S in a proper abbreviation for Horseshoe -- it's just an H. HCCl/HCCi or HC-Cl/HC-Ci or HC-Cle/HC-Cin all work fine for the former Ohio casinos. I wonder how many Horseshoe Casino chip sellers in the classifieds have lost potential buyers who had no interest in purchasing hot-stamped chips.

And I still maintain that the correct abbreviation for hot-stamps is either hs or h-s, lower-case. It's not a proper name, and shouldn't be capitalized. :)

I'm ok with "satty" as long as the word "little" preceeds it. For example.. "There's this little satty that I'm gonna play in on Friday". Otherwise, the term is totally unacceptable.

Or ID for identification.
