English please

@upNdown apparently can't stand the use of the word "satty", either used as a noun to describe a satellite tournament, or used a verb to describe the process of getting into a larger tournament by winning a satellite tournament. He would like it if (A) those who use the word would die, presumably so that they won't continue to use the word, or (B) if he himself would die so that he no longer has to hear the word. He expressed no preference between those two options.

I think that just about covers it.

Ha! Isn't that what I said?
I hope it's clear that this is lighthearted. I mean yeah, kidding not kidding. But nobody needs to die.

I live in Australia, the land where every word in the dictionary has a shortened slang version of it.

I’ve never heard of satty. If the Australians haven’t shortened it then it’s far from appropriate for anyone else to do so lol

I've never heard the term. What I saw what you wrote, I was like "Hey, that's cool - Satty - Had a chill-vibe ring to it.

Then I read the linked thread. It comes across as pompous. I couldn't imagine any normal person using more that once, much less going back to it over and over, like you have just invented a new word for the English language.

Well, I take that back - this guy could use it, and it would sound normal...

Satty is right up there with overuse of the term “all day” and hearing people vocalize “K” in tournament play.

Typing 50K is proper. Saying “fifty-KAY” is so far beyond wrong it kinda makes my head hurt :)

I feel these 2 statements are not mutually exclusive

Often referred to as "Natty Light", at least where I'm from. Changing satellite to "satty" is also a 3-to-2-syllable shortening. It's alright by me.

Reminds me of Elton John singing "Satty day nights alright for fighting"

It was cool when he did it

Spelling police, grammar police, now we got slang police. :rolleyes:

Why not get upset over something important like the incorrect use of "HS" for Horseshoe chips instead of Hot Stamp chips. :sneaky:;)
Didn’t you mention this earlier in the week? The Cleveland Horseshoes sale happened well over a year ago. Has this been simmering within you for all this time and is just now boiling over?

“Care for a Natty, Hattie, before the satty,” asked Patty.

“Let’s play a satty-o on the patio, Daddy-o.”

This is too much fun. I’d only ever heard Satty used to refer to Saturday.

A poll?

HS = Hot Stamp
HSC = Horse Shoe Casino

Fixed?...:unsure:
