Most members that have found good deals have made a profit of some kind and mainly want to bring the chips to our community so that we can share them at a Very fair price similar to the last couple of great finds that @navels came across and brought to the community... I will never be upset with anyone that finds awesome deals and decides to make a profit as long as its a fair deal to us here. I'm not at liberty to tell how much profit @davin made on the chips but I can tell you that it was much!!! and after bringing them in and possibly clearing enough so that he had a free set in the end I applaud it and appreciate him bringing them to us!
He still paid $ for 1000 chips + Freight... lets remember he wasn't buying them for $50/1000 like @luv2breformed did... he was paying thousands to bring them in...
Another thing we all need to remember that we all have opinions and after a discussion like this we still want to be friends!!! So lets not get to heated about all the comments!(y) :thumbsup:

I know no such thing. I know that I don't yet have an answer to this question. The reasons behind this can be many, and I can't demand one. I'm only asking. But I can't propose my own community-based solution to this problem until I have that answer.

Legally, @luv2breformed should be in the clear unless it is proven by the authorities that these chips were stolen. Edit: By the former sentence I mean that he could be forced to return the chips. NOT insinuating that he stole them.
Morally, I sincerely hope a middle ground of sorts can be reached simply because this is a chance to build the kind of community we want to have here. Let's face it; if I were in @luv2breformed 's shoes, parting with even half the chips would suck big time because he simply didn't do anything wrong.

If they split the 900 chips or if @luv2breformed wants to keep all and pay @davin 50% of what the 900 chips cost davin this seems to be a fair deal... In the end @luv2breformed owns the chips and can keep them all if he wants, most here would probably not look at him the same if this happens... and its really none of our business what he does or they decide to do... I think this is my last comment on the deal! Good Luck Guys... Hope ya'll are able to work everything out!!!

It was much or it was not much? If he made a big profit already then as I said I would be less inclined to cooperate further without actual physical evidence that the chips I had bought should have gone to him. I understand your reasoning when you say that some people bring chips into the community, but I have a hard time seeing the altruism in that if profit is being made. To me it then just looks like a business transaction at which point he should have protected himself as a business entity. And if that was the case then there would be no problem. Yes, his profit was lower, but wouldn't have "lost" money - and more importantly regarding your point the chips are now still in the community.
This isn't directed at you, but I think it may be worth considering for people here:
I was never into buying a bunch of chips for their 'beauty' or monetary value, even though I like chips as... you know, "stuff". When I started looking at buying chips many years ago the community was quite different and the deals were different. Custom chips seem to have been a fair amount cheaper back then. So to me it was a bit of a culture shock coming back to a forum like this and be met with a fair amount of... well, forgive me but, "snobbery" to be frank, and also a fair amount of what seems to be people primarily seeking to profit off of the chips. It just felt very different from the community I remembered from the past.
So perhaps my reaction here is a bit based on that.
Well, like I said, I think I feel like there's a bit of an ethics issue here: Either he paid a bunch to turn the chips around and make a bunch of profit, or he did this out of altruism and essentially just broke even. If it's the latter then I get it and then I think it'd be ethical to solve the situation amicably. If it's done for profit then he's a business. His choice to protect his merchandise or not, and his choice whether or not to pursue this legally.
Yeah, I hope I'm not coming across as being heated about this, because I'm not. I'm just sharing my view on it (not that anyone should care about it).
Interesting read. I’ll say that I changed my mind a number of times throughout. I won’t cast a vote between the options given, but I do believe that a balanced solution exists, somewhere in here.
That said, I feel for Luv more here. Seems like he’s tried to be above board here. Davin, on the other hand, seems needlessly aggressive.

The boxes are exact same, I rest my case here , keep in mind there positioned in a different angle and bubble wrap this stuff def can’t be remaked

There are many different "5"s written in that picture to me. I think the OP should keep them and enjoy his find after reading through this mess. If Davin wants to reach out and make an agreement for both sides that's on him. I'm not sure I would have been as nice after being attacked, especially after the comment about mentioning black to throw the OP off. Just my ignorant opinion. Hope everything works out.

No, definitely looking at the 5s. I mean, I see that they’re very similar. I also think they’re clearly different boxes. Probably written by the same person, but different boxes of chips with the number 5 written on them.

this is a shitty situation. simplest explanation is the usually the right one. they are the same chips, no doubt. my thoughts: tanner did nothing wrong. eBay seller might be a thief..might just be an idiot. split the chips. tanner can feel good about this, and get some sleep, and davin can be made a little more whole. the way i see it, all 900 could’ve ended up in the abyss of non chippers, never to be seen again. tanner has been completely transparent from what i can see, deserves immediate chip karma to the tune of 450 chips. just my opinion

It is my understanding (I could be wrong here?) that these Cancun chips were purchased in bulk and then sold to the community in smaller sets for a profit. This makes this a business transaction in my book rather than a hobby based transaction.
Any business who doesn't ship high value items well (accurate descriptions on parcels, correctly declared duty, adequate insurance for contents, well protected box and packing etc) deserves to eat the loss. Davin should have worked something out with the original seller depending on who assumed the risk of shipping the product WITHOUT adequate insurance. Adequate insurance is not what Davin paid for the product, it is what the product is worth to Davin.
I would not be returning the chips to Davin if he approached me with the attitude that he has approached Luv with. I would however offer to make Davin and his mysterious business partner whole and pay them in full the amount they paid to the original seller for the chips. I believe this is a reasonable outcome for both parties involved.
If someone approached me in a more reasonable and adult way with proof and a clear explanation then I would not hesitate to return their chips.

If a shipment was lost, Davin should have been reimbursed through a claim with either usps or eBay via the original seller. If I bought 11k chips and 1000 didn’t show up, I’d sure as hell file for 1/11th my purchase price back via eBay or insurance.
