Hello Friends and fellow addicts. My name is Jim and I love Chips. That’s really why I’m here and have been here since the great migration from Chiptalk which was the start of more than a few of our journeys down this avenue. So, yes, I remember:

I remember when Chiptalk started with the Paulson chips Mold Pharoahs club and casino group buy where the chips sold for .90 cents each.

I remember the following group buys for TR King deadwoods and Rounders that were open to All members.

I remember Puggy from Finland who used to post menus for dinner to each new member.

I remember the GCOP group buy again open to All that in my opinion was the best run group buy ever.

I remember A few Grand Cardroom group buys on differing bcc molds each an epic chance to obtain awesome chips for the entire community.

I remember several Chipco and ABC ceramic group buys again open to the entire community.

I remember the first Chiproom sale where chips sold for dirt cheap because some of the over stamps cracked the chip. I also remember the great deals Jim used to give the forum members until flippers ruined it for everyone.

I remember the upheaval about Greg Cagle charging membership for Chiptalk that eventually lead to CT’s demise and the exodus to PCF.

I remember how Tommy now institutes a charge to get ads off your threads and no one complains.

I remember deaths of revered members who’s integrity is still missed.

I remember Secret Santa and exchanging gifts.

My how things have changed...

It’s sad to see the memories of good times and what we have become. I have left before because of the bullshit that happens regularly between supposed friends who only know each other from our shared passion Unfortunately on this forum and am tempted to do so again. Can we somehow restore integrity and community? I’m giving it 39 days before my decision to stay or go. Let’s have a good, honest look at what we really have and try to make it better.

Thanks for going down memory lane with me. It’s 16 years and counting let’s hope the count keeps growing.

I remember the Condado Beach ceramics group buy, the Fake-Bellagio tournament group buy and the last TRK chips made, the Kings Crown hot stamp group buy. I participated in all three.

I also recall a wildly entertaining thread where someone posted a picture and the next poster had to post a picture that 'defeated' the first picture. I've though about reviving that thread idea here.

Wow, lots of great memories. I’m jealous about some of the great deals that you mentioned. While we can’t go back in time there’s still some good people and deals to be had. “Pick your spots I guess.” Hope you decide to stick around!

Wish I'd have known these times. I have had a mixed bag of experiences in my short time on here ..

Is this considered a "community" type of response???

I can't say I remember all those good community times, because I wasn't around for ChipTalk. I CAN say I remember the community vibe here, because I felt it and subscribed to it strongly, for my first couple of years here. I only sold chips for a profit once, and that was early on, when I didn't know any better.
I also don't want to say that times have changed. I know my attitude changed for a while when I saw things that didn't have a nice community feel.
I'm still rolling along, doing the community thing, selling chips for what I paid, or less. But these days, I feel like I'm doing it more for my reputation, than out of a feelgood sense of community. And that's kind of sad.

Is this considered a "community" type of response???
Sounds very much like a community type of response. One guy politely asking another guy to deal fairly and honestly with him.

I remember the Paulson online store clearing out its inventory of home game chips like CDI for $.29. I found Chiptalk just after the Pharaoh group buy, but was a CCGTCC member for a couple years before that. I remember round robins when people would put better chips in the box than they took out, and remember when a rack of casino fractionals was super rare. $.50’s were hard to find, quarters almost impossible and dimes were unicorns.

Money and the hobbies popularity has taken it’s toll. Chips are so expensive and good chips are hard to come by, so people hoard them. I’m guilty of it too. I’ve effectively priced myself out of the hobby. I have a couple sets that are under construction but after that... I’m out. I can’t hang with people that can just drop $5k on a set. I guess I could, but I won’t. Dont’t you scrub donkeys understand these are just no cash value clay disks???

Asshats that’ve been banned just liked to watch shit burn, and that caused a lot of animosity among everyone. It’s tough to recover a community from that. I had over 10k posts on Chiptalk as Couga, I was one of the first to join here from CT and only have a few thousand posts. Things are just different. In bigger communities your gonna have more problems.

sorry, I’m rambling, so I’ll just stop here.

*edit* Shit I have less than 2k posts here. Damn...

LMAO....

So if I buy a used car, ask for a discount, but then go buy a Ferrari the next week, I gotta pay the discounted money back to the previous dealer??? I gotta have the dealer watching my moves??? Screw you and this sentiment.

The dealer never should have agreed to give a discount in the first place.

LMFAO!!!!

Ignore...

I remember chiptalk and having way too much free time at work to post. Starting a few arguments with a few people. Buying and selling some awesome sets. Not being satisfied with my Oasis Club TRK's and selling them....now seeing them float around the internet.

Meeting some great people on CT for poker meet ups. Going to Vegas for one CT meet up.

You buy Ferrari’s when money is tight?

Not trying to be a dick, and I got no dog in this fight, but you said money was tight on a small purchase and were offered a $10 discount, then buy a high quality set for thousands... Then you publicly post a PM as an example of a degraded community. The story doesn’t make sense.

I remember we used to get a “chip” for each post and it cost some of those chips to post a classified ad.

I remember rep.

I don't think that anyone objected to Greg's charging a membership fee so much as the tiered aspects of his charges and services, and the inattention paid to site maintenance because of his personal problems. IMO, if you're going to single out people for memories, it might be positive mention of those CT admins who really kept the place afloat for the last couple of years.

And if that's an intended backhanded simile taking a shot at Tommy and PCF, IMO, you're way out of line.

I like all the we's and us's, when you pop up again out of nowhere. You ran away once, and you'll run away again.

Yeah, I agree with a lot of what you said...but these here ^^, that's kinda bullshit, man. The attention that Tommy pays to this site, and the improvements he makes, you really want to make the above statement? Apples/oranges.

Ah, a strong contender for Invalid Analogy of the Year. You don't see a difference between making a commitment on PCF (i.e., a verbal contract), then pleading poverty to get a partial discount *after the fact*, and a routine auto deal?

(Nancy, hand me another oxycodone, will you? There's been another outbreak on PCF... :cool:eek::confused

Some of the nicest people I’ve ever met have been through CT meetups. I started collecting chips in 1989 on my first trip to Vegas. Years later I found CT and couldn’t believe there were so many people that shared my interest. I’m sad that they’re not all here but I am grateful for the friendships made and my new PCF friendships.

Thanks for sharing Jim! I missed out on those good times, but I hope to be part of great things here in the future. This community has some great people in it, like yourself!

My Best!
Gabe

Complaint about ads on a free site that doesn’t sell your information or make a commission off sales is a little ridiculous. The supporting member tier was introduced because of how google ads were being annoying and presented a cheap option to get rid of them.

AFAIK, Group buys are still open to all members, I took part very early on in the Sunfly polyinnos and gpi promo buys and they both ran under $1/chi

As to the rest of your complaints, give it time. Nothing is really going on in the world. PCF isn’t going to fill the void of all the sports teams and poker tournament and vacations. Chip on sir

Asking for a discount is a natural facet of business, for me anyways, and it was a privately requested discount. It's nothing new or outrageous to ask for a price break or discount. Many members have received PMs from me asking for price adjustment or forgiveness. Not a big deal. Some refuse, some agree and offer breaks. Never been an issue.

My disappointment lies in the idea, because I continued buying at whatever rate I choose after a $10 discount, the seller was willing to shut out a repeating customer over that $10. (I've probably shopped 15 times with the seller and never asked for a discount before, but at that time, yes, I was low on funds and he was putting the pressure on to complete because I had renegged before). So what if I buy more chips in the following weeks? Why should I be accountable for the $10? What's wrong with asking for one privately? Many others agree and don't say the next time..."I'm gonna need that discount back". Give me a break! That's ridiculous

Look I'm not perfect. The $2k set he's referring to, that purchase was only completed because my wife gave me the money. You ought to read the sales thread. I had to wait half a day to acquire the funds to pay Changster. I borrowed the fu$#ing money to buy Pharaoh's I regretfully sold when I first joined. Overall, still my prerogative what I do with my money. The seller could have just refused to offer a price break, and I still probably would have completed. Many sellers tell me no, I go ahead and finish.

I'm not a bad guy. I post dibs, and at times, cash flow changes and I back out when things come to fruition. That's about my only bad quality. I try to be a good solid member here, try to help, and try to be a good seller. I've got a few feedbacks about my interactions with people.

I felt it's a degraded community if for $10, a guy can't deal anymore. After having so many successful transactions.

My money and allowances come in waves. There are times when I cant pay small bills but then at other times, I pay big ones.

No shot at Tommy intended. Sorry for that if you think that’s what I was doing. He didn’t take my icon away which is one thing I do remember Greg doing.

That’s where there is a disconnect. It seems like you are treating all transactions on PCF as a business. (That is always hard to tell from just a conversation). Many folks don’t do that on here. I’m also not mad, and I’m not telling anyone how to conduct themselves. But that’s why you will see people above arguing over that issue.

It doesn’t sound like the $10 is the issue, but more of a principle. I can understand the seller’s sour taste in that exchange above, and in my opinion it was polite as well.

Well, I disagree about your assessment of me. I have had alot of interaction with many folks on here. I am not a business nor do I act that way. I've done my fair share of buy and sell, private and public. I have done nothing but lose money, have fun, and amass cool chips.

I have not had any negative experience of this nature with ANY OTHER SELLER

Whatever. I'm not mad either. It's disappointment. Not much else.

I’m not attacking you and didn’t make an assessment. I’m trying to objectively comment above to help you understand the comments from some of the above posters and the OP. I’ve heard you are a great guy from a bunch of people.

Man, this place has been a roller coaster the past week.

I wasn't around for the boat chip/NAGB chips being made and first getting out into the community. It's regrettable that those that bought in for the entry level price and then turned around and flipped their hoard for five or ten fold their investment has made it virtually impossible to ever own these chips. But what's done is done. I'd love to one day own a ESPT set, but it's probably never going to happen because I just don't have the funds to hang with the high rollers here that can drop $8,000 on a full set of chips on a dime.

As far as the sense of "community" here, 99.9% of my interactions here have been positive. I'm not going to let that 0.1% bother me and spoil my experience. At the end of the day this is a hobby website in which most of us have lots of cash to drop on clay disks that are otherwise worthless outside of this website and hobby community. If this place is becoming a source of stress instead of positive and fulfilling, it may be best to step away for a while.

As soon as I finish my Rounders and Key West sets (just need one more rack to do so of each), and get what I need to finish my CDI tournament set (see signature), I really am done for a while too outside of tying up loose ends on my commitments from ongoing group buys (public ones!) and designing and ordering a mega CPC customs set that I will probably save funds for and order towards the end of the year. Honestly, with what I have acquired in just the past year, I'm good with what I have :) I'm having a hard time getting play time in for each set as is!

The only thing that may pull me back in and starting another set is an offering from Jim or another vendor here of some THC molded Paulsons in good to excellent condition (come on chip gods, make this happen! :D)
