Weird stuff is happening lately. People aren't the same, threads get locked and deleted, insults are being thrown around, and content seems to be .. meh..

Maybe it is just me, but as someone stated in another locked thread.. JUST LEAVE.

Might be my time because I'm not in one of the cliques, don't agree with a good bit of the stuff going on, and am just befuddled.

I'm still going to make my customs, and work with my local guys. Good luck everyone, hope it works out. I even got the approval to host a meetup, but I'm not sure I'll be around to send the word out. I'll lurk here and there, but I think my good will here is done.

Maybe I'm not very perceptive regarding all this behavior that I've seen people complaining about, but I don't see it. And I'm pretty much on here all the time and read just about everything.
Naively sticking around,
Rob

I'm always in the dark about this shit. I left middle school drama in high school when I realized I was being a bitch by participating. It seems some poker bros exist on it though.

Edit to add:

Word.

And word.

I'd hate to see you leave too. I'm on here everyday and I have no clue what you're talking about. Honestly. I have no clue. I've just had two incredible experiences with members here in the last week where both parties were mutually generous. One of them I hope to share in the next couple weeks. If you're gone I hope it's not for long. At the very least come back and read my story.

Any forum, workplace, family, team is just a smaller version of society. And like a society, there are funny, happy, kind, sad, mean, antagonistic, self-serving people. The world is not perfect and neither will the 'next' poker forum be if everyone up and leaves.

I am not interested in bickering, name-calling or aligning myself with perceived poker geniuses/experts, but do enjoy seeing the awesome chips and having the occasional fun. I would like to think I have made some positive contribution to the community, but if no one likes me or whatever, I'm not crying myself to sleep on my pillow tonight :). My world does not revolve around this forum, nor does my peace of mind or view on the world rely on the content. So, neither should it for anyone else :).

If you have identified the 'pleasant' people, interact with them and be happy. If you have identified the 'unpleasant' people, then avoid their comments and posts. The same way you would avoid unpleasantness elsewhere. If a person is aware they are an ass or just enjoy making others feel uncomfortable, they should take steps.

I don't think there needs to be a 'rule' about basic decency as the old adage applies universally - 'If you can't say something nice ...' :)

I haven't been around long enough to know what was it like before, but the tensions have definitely risen and quite a few things don't seem right. But I guess I would attribute it to a few things. First, there are a lot of new members on PCF (like myself) who will need time to get to know everyone, making sure we don't step on people's toes. The significant increase in prices is probably adding to the tension, directly or indirectly. It has made selling, buying and trading more difficult, as people are either sitting on their sets, or have no opportunity to complete their sets. And many can't trade as they are afraid of selling some sets and never being able to find a replacement. For e ample, I have noticed that the classified section has become stale and not a lot of interesting stuff come up for sale anymore (I could be wrong on this, but anytime I do a search, I find lots of great chip sets that came up for sale prior to 2016). And there seems to be a feud amongst the old-timers as well, and the injection of new chippers in the community, as well as how the buying and selling of chips have changed so dramatically especially in the last year or so, must be rattling a lot of cages.

I also think the recent GB efforts and the amount of time the community spent on it and how everyone was so excited did take some toll on members, after they were cancelled without full explanation (we are all reading between the lines). This has lead to a lot of necessary deleting, thread closures, and some behavior that an open forum of dedicated hobbyists like this simply had never seen before. It will take time to recover and heal.

This is an amazing community. Diverse. Dysfunctional at times. Fun at times, frustrating at other times. And definitely expensive as hell to be a part of. I do recognize that there is a lot of money involved in buying and selling these chips. Some of you have mind-numbing collections that have accumulated over a decade or more. Lots of animosity, and perhaps other human emotions are constantly in play. But I for one hope that people cool down a little and begin to enjoy the community again. I can only hope.

Add me to the "not know what is going on camp" that several people keep talking about. If there is something going on I would like to know.

The site definitely has some groups that are close knit, I think a lot of that is geographic based with members that know and play together on a regular basis outside of the site but as a whole I enjoy the discussions on here, poker and non-poker related.

While we all aren't going to have the same views on different subjucts (thankfully) it is good we can discuss things (mostly) civilly.

I can't say for sure, but I am guessing when the conversation break down to name calling and poop flinging the mods delete or lock threads as I haven't been involved in many of those threads.

Haven't noticed it personally, but don't have time to stay tuned to every thread and read every post these days. A bit more selective in what I view, I guess. But I agree that weird stuff is happening..... I'm even getting along with this guy now:

:)(y)

Online communities are always an ebb & flow sorta thing. Sometimes overflowing, other times closer to a trickle. New blood changes things, sometimes for the worse, usually for the better. This one is no different. The core will always be here, and ever-changing.

Funny thing is that BGinGA and I didn't get along well when I started posting here. I took offense to some things he used to say and took them personally. A LOT. And even though I love the movie Avatar, every time I used to see his avatar, it used to bug me. A LOT. I always felt like he was yelling at me...yes ME. But I have grown to appreciate his 'intensity' and now see him as the grand wizard. If you have a question, he has the answer :D. But it's annoying that he knows EVERY GOD DAMN THING ABOUT EVERY CHIP AND EVERY PERSON IN THIS GOD DAMN BUSINESS :p. Not to mention that he has been super helpful in ways that no one expects or would ever imagine.

This may be a dysfunctional family, but don't we all look forward to the annual Thanksgiving dinner with our fighting family every year? ;)

I don't have access to the politics thread, so maybe there's some bleed over tension from there? Anyway I really haven't seen what you're talking about. Keep in mind that it is summer for most of us so that's going to drive some slowdown. Both of my jobs have been rather stressful lately so my ability to sneak peeks during the day have been pretty well curtailed too.

I will say that I think chip prices have changed the trading dynamic considerably. It's all supply and demand and will eventually settle itself out, but right now it feels like trading chips is a business endeavor. $200 here, $350 there for a rack. Holy fuck man.

Didn't even know one existed. Do I even want to get involved? probably not. safe to say on this side of the track and keep playing with my chippies.

Amen. You can say that again and again and again. And some apparently cost 8-10K for a rack. I am sometimes speechless.

I love PCF but am not a prolific poster. Despite that, just yesterday, BGinGA graciously chimed in with some very helpful information regarding some questions I had about Old West Poker hybrids. His vast knowledge of all things poker truly is a great resource for this community. My experience here has been nothing but positive thanks to members who have been super nice and helpful whenever I do post......which will be more often thanks to thier kindness! And thank you to Tommy and all the mods who really keep this a place worth coming back to on a daily basis. A bit of minor 'drama' should by no means detract from the overall awesomeness of this site!

There will always be the upper echelon of any hobby so these kinds of things are what they are. The big set that came up for sale and will no longer be a set is one of those just to grab one as an example. One of the best items you can get in this hobby in many peoples eyes and in a very limited supply, worth every penny to someone who wants them. The rest of the market though, and this sounds weird to say even with some pretty high prices, has came down a little from what it was a few years ago. Before the recent release of clay form some closed casinos there was a REAL dry market and what was being moved was really expensive. I don't want to tell you what I paid for one of my warped and dirty racks of jokers wild quarters. lol :D

In a way it mimics the firearms market before/during/after political events of the past thirty years or so. Do you know what people paid for AK47s before the original AWB? How about during? How about after it's repeal? How about the 6 months to a year before President Obama was elected? What about when it looked like Hillary would be elected? And what about now that we have a President that has set the tone for years to come (so it seems)? Yeah, chips and guns don't have much in common so in one regard that's apples to oranges, but it's all supply and demand and peoples perceived value of what they want and their feelings on if they can get it or not. Why were chips cheap at one point? Lot's of casinos going under and lot's of quality chips were on the market, not to mention custom options from the best manufacturer in the game (with no TRK around obvs ;) ). Why did they get more expensive? Paulson leaves the market and the flood of casinos going under slowed. There's more to it than that and someone who has only been in the hobby only since 2014 is no where near an expert, but even in that short amount of time it's obvious what happened.

Cliffs: Chips are expensive now, but not as expensive as they have been, they will probably be cheaper and again more expensive at some point in the future, enjoy the ride. ;)

I totally get the price of that set, but that was a huge set. I was mostly referring to, for example, a rack of 25K Horseshoe chips for 7K...LOL...anyway, let's not derail this thread to make it about chip prices

I think I'm gonna have a peanut butter and fluff sandwich. They make marshmallow fluff in Lynn mass. Also known as Lynn Lynn the city of sin. Apparently you don't exit that city the same way as you entered it.

From my perspective at least (the only one I can offer, obviously), my dismay with the site has nothing to do with new members in any way, or the price of chips. It has even less to do with the content of the well-hidden politics thread.

Care to share what IS causing your dismay? Or do you prefer to just say you are upset without explaining further?

Aside from the Trump vs. Clinton debacle of last year, gun control issues and the buying sets on the cheap to then sell high controversy, I really don't see what kind of unrest is going on atm. Let's not turn this into Blue Wall 2.0 though.

I have zero problem with buying cheap and selling high, unless you do it repeatedly and consistently to the detriment of the availability of chips to others. It's the difference between being a flipper/vendor and being an enthusiast/hobbyist.

I thought the Trump/Clinton thing was great honestly - not the outcome of the election, but a high point for me was offering someone here something like 8-1 odds on $1000 (or something to that effect) and they didn't take me up on it (thank god).

The gun control debate went where it always goes. Meh.

If anything, I'd like to see that kind of content more readily available, but it's not. This site is more about WTS ads and weird posts from people asking who the prevalent host is on the site and whether poker players should go all in or not.

Maybe there should be sub forum that the Mods don't monitor. Put a warning up that the content may be controversial and/or NSFW to enter at own risk.

Many sites usually have something like this. Put a higher post count to have access to it.

Just an idea.

I'd love that - I think a lot of us would - but I think there are probably concerns about search engines and some NSFW content, and I have no earthly clue how to submit ideas to the site owner/mods (and not an abundance of confidence that they'll care what I think anyway).

Will this secret rendezvous spot have some special chip pr0n section too :D and maybe we can put silly stuff in a separate section too....deep, and I mean very deeply buried (y)
