How often do you host games? (1 Viewer)

It used to be 3/4 times a month. Bought tables, chips with denoms and became 1/2 times a month.

Now made and designed my own table and own chips (Chiplab (ordered from EU)) and am lucky to get in 8/10 games a year..

I used to host my club tournaments monthly, but recently moved to bi-monthly. Average registrants have gone up.

I’m getting ready to move for the first time in 31 years. I’ve lived 30 minutes from most of my players, even further from others, so when I announced the move last week all my regulars heartily approved, and I think I’ll be able to host weekly sit & go tourneys for up to ten players. So my hosting will go from 8 to hopefully triple that real soon. And moving from a rural community back to a larger city opens up all kinds of take out and delivery I do not have available now.

Curious on how often most of yall host games…

I’ve been thinking about upgrading my generic chip set, but I haven’t been hosting that consistently. How often/consistent were you hosting games before you started upgrading your set?

Or was it an upgrade your set and you started hosting more?
Have one game that I host once a week for about 15 years a second game I host every two weeks for about 1 year with special occasions mixed in there. Didn’t really upgrade to till about 2 years ago, been using semi customs that I ordered 20 plus years back in the day from Gamblers General Store in Vegas. The last 2 years started with Tina/Dina customs and Relabeled casino chips.

The most accurate thing I’ve seen. I spent over 10k easily and do not host anymore..upgrading my house, my chips, cards you name it lol..

We put 30K into our backyard 2 years ago 'so the kids would have a better area to play' and 'so my wife and I can host more gatherings'.

...and if that 30k involved a jungle gym, a swing set, or the like, you have decreased the resale value of your home.

The things we do for kids.

Me and my roommate bought a set of 850 monte carlo chips and we run 1-3 times a week at .1/.2 blinds and sometimes .25/.50

I host a monthly cash game with breaks for months like July and December because those tend to be busy months for me personally. Unless there is an unexpected illness or planned hiatus that that takes me away from being able to host, it's a monthly game. Most of the guys who play are married with kids, so anything more than once month is a no-go.

I host a home game once a month about 8 months out of the year. Then a EOY Freeroll, and a special Bday tournament I host for a charity. So about 10 games in a year?

Then I play about 2-3 other tournaments at home games or local lodges per month.

I don't own super fancy chips (like Paulsons). But I have enough Majestics for a 40 person tournament if I ever feel like hosting one one day. It's been an investment one can say? But Maybe $600 for the chips over the years, and another $800 for all the cards, tables, toppers, buttons, etc.

So all in all, less than the cost of an OLED TV. Well worth the laughs and fun.

The great things about sets like the Majestics is that you can always buy what you need now and add-on later.

The tables work great for board game nights too.

I host 1 cash game a month on average, and started in the fall a tourney league, once a month. Cash game is one table, and tourney 1 to 2 tables. I tried to rotate homes for the tourney league, like a floating poker game, a la Sky Masterson.

I find it takes a lot of effort to organize, from inviting, to giving game time details. Seems like it is easy for others. Maybe I need a better system, but I like to curate a good vibe of players, instead of first come first served, so that maybe takes more effort. I've tried Invite Tracker, its not bad, but really need SMS not email.

Sometimes I think 2 a month for a cash game would be good, but that probably would be too often.

I spread a weekly game for seven years back in Saint Paul. I’m not sure why I didn’t feel the burnout. Maybe it was the alcohol.

The reboot of my game here in the suburbs ran weekly for about 2 1/2 years. It went from small to big to really big as far as the bank was concerned.

I wasn’t sure what was creating the heaviness on my shoulders. I thought it was the set up, the coordination, the cleanup. Maybe it was fading brutal road construction in front of the house and an upcoming golf season where I intended to hit over 100 rounds (I hit 145).

In any event, the game got closed down on the weekly back in May. Turns out it was none of the above. It was the fact that half my group was becoming increasingly disenfranchised with having to come with two or 300 bucks just to protect hands and challenge for pots.

The time away served me well, and I brought it back in a micro capacity. The table is shorter by design, particularly because I lost a ton of parking. If a couple guys ride together, we can go full table.

Everyone laughs and laughs and laughs all night. We even swapped out “nice hand” for “in your face.” You can do that at a micro game.

In any event, the game runs about 2 to 3 times a month. Seemingly keeps everyone fresh.

Both of my games ran the same trajectory; small, big, huge, small.

I guess that kind of thing is in the cards. No pun intended.

Carry on.

I think the burn out is real. Finding the sweet spot is gold. Glad you have found it! I'm still trying to find the hole in the needle.

I'm at around 2–3 times per month for a microstakes cash game. I've been aiming for weekly with the odd week off as other things come up.
