How many NHL fans do we have here? (2 Viewers)

Yet another case of Skinner not freezing a puck leads to a goal.

3-0 Florida. Edmonton hasn't necessarily looked bad they just haven't looked like a team competing for the Cup.

Thank-you Florida for the mercy kill. Just bring out the Cup already.

On the bright side, my credit card is getting a pretty hefty refund tomorrow for some Game 7 tickets that I won’t be needing anymore….

#Brightside = more chips

Nope. Lupus is awful. My mom had lupus . She beat pancreatic cancer through a successful Whipple procedure but she was sicker than that when she had lupus which is saying something.
I knew that comment would backfire at some point. Glad she beat it!

Florida in 6.

At least I won $90 on bonus bets. Well, I did have the field with bonus bets. Lol

I wonder what a Reinhart 4 goal game odds were. A small bet and I could have had enough to buy those Iceman chips.

I feel bad for Sabres fans man. Adams is a buffoon. Sorry you have to endure this @buffalojim. They're going to piss away Dahlin's prime just like Eichel's.
It's been a struggle man. I miss the 90s and early 2000s when we were actually competitive. Franchise has been a joke for at least a 3rd of my existence.

Beginning of my life, Islanders were a joke, we signed a goalie for 100 years and just hoped for the best. Now, we actually win games and get close, but it hurts.

Signing DiPietro for 15 years was incredible at the time, crazy. You guys had it rough for a while too. Felt bad when Tavares left.

As a lifelong Oilers fan, I feel you man. I'm too young to have experienced the 80's dynasty. All I got was the 90's, when the Oilers were a farm team for the rest of the NHL, the early 2000s where we struggled to make the playoffs each year, and then 10 years of darkness following a miracle SCF run (and loss) in '06.

The team is good now, even if they're in Salary Cap Hell, but two straight SCF losses stings worse than the 10 years of suck.

Different scenarios, I know, but all that to say, hang in there!

I mean, it could be worse... we could be Leafs fans.

What did they do now?
Adams sounded like a buffoon at this morning's presser. He gave a nonanswer when asked if Peterka asked for a trade. Fans are understandably freaking out that the coaching staff isn't seeing any changes at all.

They likely lose Peterka to an offer sheet in a week.

It sounds like there's no long term plan or vision.

Since the hot stove talk about offer sheets seems to be ramped up this year, I feel like this small, but important, tidbit is not being discussed enough. I'll use the Rangers and Peterka as an example.

The Rangers need their own 2026 2nd round pick (among other things) in order to sign Peterka to any offer sheet with an AAV between $7.02M and $11.7M. They don't have that pick, so they either need to stay under that minimum or over that top end.

However, the crucial thing here is that when determining the AAV on an offer sheet for compensation purposes, the total value of the offer sheet/contract signed is divided by the number of years in the deal, or by 5, whichever is less. So on any 6 or 7 year deal, you must divide the total by 5.

So when fans say, "Sign Peterka to a 7 x $7M deal, we can give the Sabres our 2026 1st and 2026 3rd," that's not quite correct. The total of $49M in that deal would be divided by 5, not 7, which results in an AAV of $9.8M for compensation purposes, which puts the Rangers squarely back in that zone that they cannot make work without their own 2026 2nd round pick.

Just food for thought, since I see so many people talking about offer sheets, specifically with Peterka. Make sure you're doing the right math when figuring out whether or not your team has the necessary draft picks required in order to sign a player to an offer sheet.

Also a couple additional things to remember about offer sheets and why they're so rarely used.

1. Pretty much the only way the player's team isn't going to match is if you go absurdly above market value. If they sign a team-friendly offer sheet, the player's team just matches it and says, "Thanks for negotiating a great deal for us, have a nice day."

2. The player in question has to actually sign the offer sheet. It's not as if they don't have a say in the matter. If they don't want to come play for your team, they're not going to sign an offer sheet with you. People just assume that players are willing to uproot and change teams like it's nothing (i.e. Luke Hughes is not actually offer sheet eligible this summer, but even if he was, all the fans online that would be screaming to offer sheet him seem to not realize that he's already playing with one brother, with another one potentially on the way at some point... why would he voluntarily sign with another team?)

You gotta post at HFBoards too. I saw this same exact discussion over there a few days ago.

I'll give you a Beachcomber cash sample if you figure out who I am over there. No one has gotten one from me...

I stick to my Devils fan discord, haven't been on HFBoards since college. But I still might mosey over there and see if I can find you lol

And P.S.

Any team can offer a bonus laden contract that Buffalo ownership may not sign off on paying out and they have a huge problem :cool
