I am going to start running home games and am about to buy a nice chip set and would appreciate any feedback on quantities before I buy. Game wont be super serious will be with a group of work friends. Most nights will probably have 5-7 players with up to 10 max which would be really rare. Most will buy in for 100-150 big blinds, maybe up to 200. I will be running mostly 10c/20c, a little 25c/50c, and possibly on a rare occasion 50c/1. I am looking at currently going with the setup in the screen shot below. I plan on using the 10 as either cents or dollars depending on the game, if its 10c/20c then it will be cents otherwise it can be dollars. Does what I have currently (what chatgpt recommended me) make sense? Maybe I reduce the number of $25 and 10 chips and add a few more .25 and 1s? Also, I plan on buying these: https://www.thepokerstore.com/colle...roducts/600-turbo-ceramic-10-gram-poker-chips

100/200/200/160/20/20 - 700 chips. The last two are for $25 and $100 denoms. You could just go 40 $25 instead. It will allow you to flex up to a deeper $0.25/$0.50 game. Or you could always add on later if you get a set that’s readily available.

Ten cent and quarter chips don't mix. Trouble is certain. Nickels and quarter work well together.

You also don't want generic "10" chips to vary in value depending on the game. Pocket a dime chip till next month where it is worth 100x as much. Just don't test your luck and the table's honesty.

More chips are generally better than less. But once you hit 1,000+ and only have one table - maybe that is adequate. (not that I took this advice myself.)

It isn't as big a decision if add-on chips are readily available -=- DrStrange

Agree with DrStrange. Drop the "10" chip and get a rack of nickels for .10/.20. Or forget the nickels and just run .25/.25. There won't be any difference in the game, really

Agreed. Nickels are only good for 5c/10c. Once you go up in stakes, make it 25c/25c as it plays almost identical to 10/20.
If you don’t need to play 5c/10c, you save from having to buy nickel chips.

Agree with this!

And once you raise your stacks you’ll need a lot more $5’s so I’d probably go with
For .25/.25

150 - 0.25
200 - $1
200 - $5
50 - $25

For .25/.50 or .50/$1
100 - 0.25
200 - $1
300 - $5
100 - $25

So for you to be able to accommodate all of go w 800 chips.
150 - .25
200 - $1
350 - 5’s
100 - 25’s

Simplify, simplify, simplify!

Ditch the dimes and base your chip-set off your starting stacks and buy-ins.

Starting stacks for .25/,25 to .50/$1

12 x .25
12 x $1
X x $5

Chip-set

120 x .25/PLO
140 x $1
200 x $5
40 x $25

Bank: $2,170, which will support most 100BB, .50/$1, 8 to 9 player home games.

I moved my group to a cash game this past year but it all depends on your players too. Will the minimal amount of chips work? Yes, but with a lot of change making during the game to move around the blind chips. MOAR chips is always suggested but get more where needed.

I initially bought 800
.05x100
.25x200
$1x200
$5x200
$25x75
$100x25

This set can cover a variety of games but with about a third mostly unused. So after some adjustments found a set that works for our stakes. .25/.25 $25 buy-in with a few rebuys. We have yet to put all the chips in play.

600 chips
.25x300
$1x200
$5x75
$25x25

Starting stacks are two barrels, one of .25 and one $1. We do that or 2 barrels of fracs and the rest in $1. Rebuys to put all fracs and ones in play then the $5 and $25 come out. We play frac heavy but my group likes seeing big stacks in front of them and around the table.

Or just buy Tigers and you’ll be fine
