Playing in a MTT Monday - 40 players with 4 alternates. First place pays out $5K, top 4 $1500+. I won a seat into the tournament after taking first place in a 32 player MTT earlier this year. I would like to do well, since I have relocated and will not be able to play as often. So....

What do you do to prepare for a tournament?

It's been years since I've played any tourhament that wasn't MTT, so I guess there's no mental "preparation" that I would think any different. Players change, so don't get in the habit of thinking "Seat 3 is a LAG", because after reseating, the player in seat 3 may be in seat 8. Keep your game nimble.

Length of a tournament may require some extra forethought. Pay attention to breaks get up and move around to keep your mind fresh. Be prepared to modify levels of aggression as the players and their position relative to you, will change. Have snacks available if the tournament is going to run long. Drink less alcohol.

Better yet, don't drink alcohol at all. Drink water instead ;););), or if you are prone of being sleepy, coffee might help you to some extent :coffee::coffee::coffee:.

I looked at the blind schedule. There are a couple of big jumps part way thru the structure. 2500/5000 to 5000/10000 to 10000/20000. The blinds also double between levels 1 and 2. Starting stacks are 250BB's with 30 minute levels. I estimate the tournament will run 7.5 hours including breaks. (15 minutes every two hours.)

Know the structure.

Make good decisions.

Know you will face a point where you have to go for it and you can't avoid elimination.

where is this tournament? in maine?

For single-table tournaments, my preparation revolves around structure and players (and where they are seated). For MTTs, less so on players.
