right handed - 7 - I thought I was an 8 but then actually tried it and I was wrong.

For what it's worth, you are all neanderthals. This is how you write an "X"

I googled "how to print the letter X" -- the 'experts' say #7.

My wife is an OT in the school districts here so it is her job to teach handwriting the proper way. She said that #7 is the only correct way and that she is not surprised that I draw an X abnormally :p

I am still surprised at the number of responses #8... starting on the right side of the letter and coming backwards seems awkward?
When writing in cursive it is also done as a #7 as well.

Was there any reason given?

I do #8, which leaves my second stroke leading right into the next letter.

I guess #7 makes some twisted kind of sense if you print the same as cursive, making your left-to-right downstroke, finishing the word, then coming back to complete the right-to-left downstroke. Freaks.

Just did a survey in my class and the majority in the room was a #7 as well... just sayin'.

I call shenanigans.

If you were concerned with optimal pen movement, you would only do #8 if your pen ends the previous letter at the top. Since most letters are completed at the bottom (by your own admission the bottom right leads into the next letter) then your preferred method should be #6.

Since #6 has a pathetically small percent of the votes, I think we can shove "efficiency" right out the window.

I think #7 is most efficient for cursive because the first stroke flows into the next letter. I finish the word, then come back and cross the Xs, cross the Ts, and dot the Is.

After my response, I (pathetically) put further thought in to the matter, and was trying to decide b/w #5 or #6 for efficiency. The finishing upstroke on #5 would leave me in the best position to begin the vast majority of letters that follow, more than enough I believe to make up for the somewhat more efficient initial upstroke on #6.

Does bigdonkey's efficiency argument for #8 work, at least for movement along the x-axis, when writing in all caps?

I voted 7 (RH) which is how I write it most of the time,

then I realized that I sometimes write it 6 since it's quicker when attached to certain letters, like axe (6) or expect (6) but oxygen remains a 7. Crazy :cool
