Cursive teaches us "7". Due to the continuous flow. But the 2nd stroke doesn't happen until you have finished the word.

Printing I am an "8"... because finishing at the lower right segment helps with flow to the next letter I guess.

Oh shit - I was convinced I was a 7 until I took out a piece of paper. I'm an 8! And both when writing cursive or printing (I'm a righty)

Well, you have to be a 7 in cursive, don't you? If not, you're not actually writing cursively.
