How different do Tina's sound vs a genuine Paulson (1 Viewer)

I'm very new to all of this but looking for my first set of clays and obviously love the sound of Paulson chips. I am wondering if Tina's are close or very different (brighter or duller)?

If you love Paulsons, Tina's are going to be way off in the distance. They are not clay chips. The customization and price point is good, so you are beat off getting some samples to evaluate for yourself. For me, Tina's are "very different", but your mileage may vary.

I think you can get pretty close in the look of Tina vs Paulson. Sound and feel are very different. But so is price point.

It varies from mold to mold, for both companies. Generally speaking, no. But some of the Tina hybrid chips can come close to a paulson sound. Yet another reason to get samples.

Tinas vs Paulson:
The SOUND is very similar.
The FEEL is different ... that textured, sometimes a bit gritty clay vs the smoothness of a ceramic, almost plastic, even with a mold.
I have a Tina set on the way in the December buy, I got samples and compared them to some casino THCs (both "clacky") and my Nexgen RPTs ("clinky").

I’ve gone through a couple sets of Tina’s but honestly I don’t think they are even comparable. Apples to oranges.

Although the hybrids are a great value I think they feel and sound quite different. If you can get your hands on some samples of each that’s your best bet.

I sold all my Tina’s because for me Paulsons were superior in every aspect with the exception of price lol

The sound is brighter as they are a ceramic chip. It has a sharpness to it. I would describe the sound as a snap.

Definitely much different than the dull and meaty sound of the clay chips.

Tinas are closer in sound to RHC Paulsons then THC Paulsons imo, so consider both when picking up samples.

Tina hybrids sound much more like a clay chip compared to her no-mold or cards mold ceramics.
However, I think the sound of chips isn't nearly as important as the way they feel.

Tinas are best for their customization while looking like typical casino chips. Otherwise the sound and feel is nothing like a Paulson. Their are other chips on the market that feel or sound better than Tinas IMO, but don't offer the same creative freedom and/or lack inlays/labeling.

Chinese ceramics sound like what they are, cheap and clinky.

If that is your thing, go for it. If not, buy the real thing.

I have to agree with @Tonysquander As someone who has wasted money on cheaper options I wish I just saved more and bought the real thing. There really isn’t a comparable but rather cheaper alternatives. Lots of people here love the Tina chips but it’s really personal preference.

Get the samples and decide what works for you.

Agreed. The OP asked only about sound, not price, quality, value, etc…
The first time I handled hybrids, I was surprised how they didn’t sound like any other ceramic chip I had heard, more like clay than ever before.
If you haven’t handled the hybrid chips, especially the 43mm, you may be impressed how ceramic chips have evolved.

Thank you all for the replies all the info is really helpful. Definitely glad I was able to pickup a tournament set of Paulson’s this weekend. Very excited to get my hands on a full set. I only have a few $1 chips from some Vegas casinos.

Night and day difference, in my opinion the only thing even similar could be the depth of color in some pigments. Otherwise they are each their own thing. Definitely 2nd getting a sample set. They do have a nice variety to choose from though.
