Having built a set about my birthplace, Athens, I 've always wanted to make a set dedicated to my origin, and hopefully my last resting place one day:
My village, Pesta, in the mountains of Epirus.
That's where our 1895 old family home still stands, built by my great-grandfather, a horse and mule caravan driver. One of his horseshoes still ornaments the entrance:

ΑΛΩ stands for Alawnaris, literally threshing time, local nickname for July (1895) when our home was built.

A few pics to convey to you the feeling of the place

A distant northern view of Mt Tomaros from Yannina, the provincial capital, and its lake. Typical foggy Epirot morning.

Empty artillery shell cartridge of the defeated Ottoman army, from the 1912-13 Balkan wars, when Epirus was liberated and united with Greece.
On St Andrew's day (November 30th) 1912 my grandparents ceased to be subjects of the Ottoman Sultan

My uncle's (father's most beloved brother) MP40, long inactive now, with which he fell in combat in 1944. He was a Lieutenant with the Hellenic Army, and company commander in the National Republican League (EDES) during the Resistance. The MP40 was provided by the British SOE (Special Operations Executive)

On to trivial things, like poker chips, now :)

5 star $5 chip. What is the original?
Casablanca $100.
It's been an Odyssey to find them. I needed them for their dark, muted, tile-ish red, reminiscent of autumn colors in Epirus (and of my house's windows :D )
The RHC set that preceded this one had the perfect (colour-wise) Cleveland $5, but those were casino-used, however decent, cleaned and oiled.

Holy hell, those colors look great together. Very well done.
Thanks man! I also gave a lot of thought to whether having the denoms in different colors (and which) or not. I think they matched well.
The colors of the chips themselves could be said to represent one season of the year each (not in the right order though :D ).
I might make a custom CPC tourney set in the distant future (on the Horsehead mold of course) following even the order of the year's seasons.
The black color on the chips, of course, corresponds anyway to our scorpions:D. Not lethal, unless you are allergic, but can be very painful, so you 've got to incorporate a handful of new rules to your daily life, in a mountain village.

That was the first attempt in RHC mode.
Suffered somewhat from the combination of mint/near mint chips with casino-used chips (the visually irreplaceable, though, Cleveland $5s).
They' ve grown on me and I 'll rather keep them as well as secondary set. The $1s are mint-fresh MGMs.

To cut a long story short, I 'll go straight to the end result:
A full THC label-over set, with the assistance of the Wizzard Mr. @Gear :)

AS snappers, ES $1s, Casablanca $100s, ES T25s secondary, PCA $100s secondary.
More details and history behind the set, upon request.
Enjoy!

No other RHC chip I could find was to my liking, so I went THC all the way, and built the set around the brick-red Casablanca $100s, which were the hardest to find at a non-obscene price, by the way :)

Forgot to mention the button:

I hope one day we could play with those beauties with some of you, provided we all make it through this current virus shit.
If, for any reason, I inadvertently :D die, at least you 'll know where to find me, after this thread.
Just travel to Pesta and ask for St Nicholas Chapel cemetery:)

I meant, what does ALO stand for? Is it the Greek equivalent of Anno Domini?
Jesus, Bernie, please read!
I just wrote above that it stands for ΑΛΩΝΑΡΗΣ, pronounced Alawnaris, literally meaning threshing time (from alawni, meaning threshing-floor), local nickname for July.:)

Well, you can't blame me for being distracted by all the beautiful pictures and the chip pr0n!

Forgot to mention that, because of the important battle in November 1912, during Balkan War I, my village's name, Pesta, is inscribed on the wall of the Unknown Soldier Monument, at the Greek Parliament building in Athens.
All place names where Greeks left their bones in combat, after the creation of the modern Greek state following the 1821 Revolution, are inscribed, victories and defeats alike.
PESTA UnknownSoldier10.jpg

The monument is inspired by the ancient Greek tradition of honouring the missing soldiers, not just the "anonymous".
Excerpts from Pericles' Funeral Speech are inscribed on the center of the monument:

"An empty coffin is paraded [during the funeral] to honour the ones missing, whose bodies were never found after combat"
UnknownSoldier16.jpg

"For outstanding men, all Earth is a tombstone"
UnknownSoldier17.jpg

A few more pics, offering a general view of the monument, guarded by the "Evzones", in 19th-century battle costumes, carrying nevertheless slightly less obsolete M1s :), of the honorary Presidential Guard

Thank you Nav!:)
Well, other people designed the chips and credit for that goes to them. I just brought everything together (at a cost:D)
