Anyone do home brewing? I brewed a beer in a kit a number of years back, this weekend I started a couple of wines and some mead fermenting.

It’s been years, but I use to brew and store in pony kegs. Had 2 poker tables, a full bar and converted a chest freezer into a 6 tap kegerator. Looked something like this:

I did but had to give it up 10 or 12 years ago. Not that it takes a lot of time, but I wasn't able to commit the time it does take anymore. Kind of a shame as I enjoyed it a lot. I joked it was a hobby that was the easiest to share with others (here, have a bottle of this that I made).

Sounds like you've stepped beyond the kit if you are making wine and mead.

For anyone reading this thread and wondering about trying themselves, I suggest do it. Find a good brew shop that you can get your supplies from and can ask questions of the staff if and when they arise. All the kit you'll need (minus the ingredients for the first batch) are going to be less than $100 and are reuseable from batch to bacth. "Brew day" is a couple hours start to finish, but most of that time is babysitting the boil. Bottling day is also another couple hours, but also has a bit more cleaning involved, between sanitizing bottles and cleaning the now pretty awful looking fermenter.

Wine is of interest but I understand that’s a bit more complicated than beer. Accurate?

We get lots of mango and other fruits here

I get some dragon fruit on a good year

I would love to have a small still too make brandy once a year

I have made some mead and apple wine.

If I had a small still I would have made some corn whiskey, rum. and rye whiskey
