Does anyone have any unique rules that the incorporate in their home games? Anything to make the stakes more interesting or make pots more enticing? Unusual straddle positions? Bonus for winning with 7-2 off? Curious to hear what the community does to add a little flavor to their games.

we added a rock and bomb pots every 25 minutes and that's been the sweet spot for my group. Encourages more action and keeps people engaged. People want to win the dang rock.

we have the Sean rule

He is our one player that gets distracted, cant shuffle is loose with cards, flips over while dealing because he is loose

you get 2 freebies

after that every error that makes us reshuffle, he or any player must pay the table a dollar each, or we make him add 5 to the pot

we play lots of dealers choice so it happens

he is notorious for looking at his cards in Mexican sweat, that cost him big, he laughs it off every time and pays

Not sure if the variant is known. However, a French player (Yoh Viral) has set up a rather funny game for the televised cash games that he organizes in casino. At regular intervals (every 2 hours I believe), all the players get up and continue to play, but standing. The rule is that you have to win a hand to be allowed to sit down. The last player to sit must give a fixed sum to each of the other players. Sometimes he also has to dress up for 1 hour. I believe the game is called "stand-up game". We've tried it a few times with friends and it's quite fun.

Back when I was in school, the rule of where only one winner takes the entire pot... No splitting the pot ever!

Nothing like splitting the pot half for two winners with let's say two pairs, only one guy takes the whole thing no splitting.

Do they have a thumb war for it or something?

Our guy's name is Peter... :D

...as they should, right? Or am I missing something?
If both winners have two pairs, they would split the pot.
In our home game in college, kicker mattered and there was always one winner who takes the whole pot. I thought that's how people play it until I started playing with PCF people

In highschool we had this strange rule that if something like 3 of a kind or something that person would take the whole pot instead of splitting against a two pair, even though both players clearly had a five card hand lol

Kicker always matters. Exactly which PCF people have been playing with you?

People I met at the Temecula and Vegas meet-up.
Interesting to see some people have different rules: strictly one winner, no split of pot ever OR split the pot if hands are tied and ignoring the kicker.

Sorry for my sarcastic response, I thought you were joking earlier. FYI, kickers always matter. It would be a weird house rule if they didn't. AQQTT beats KQQTT. Ace high flush beats king high flush. Etc...

"Southern Gentleman Clause"

You are allowed to string bet provided you say (in a southern drawl):

"I see your wager... and raise you _____"

Players may veto the string bet if they feel the southern drawl was not exaggerated enough (Think Foghorn Leghorn). Majority rules.

It's perfect, because once people hear the accent, they know a raise is coming so there's really never any confusion about a call/raise.

  • We play outside under a big mango tree every week. During season I would get 50-300 mangos per day falling. If one lands on your head everyone at the table owes you $5.
  • 2-7 game
  • Bomb pot with bomb pot dice roller to determine the ante size
  • Show ‘em chip

7-2 game, bomb pot every 45 minutes (sometimes PLO, sometimes NLHE, sometimes Double board), and this weird game where everybody chooses a card from the player to their left, and that person has to flip that card up (left card or right card). Last game is not very strategical, but makes for some hilarious bluffs and general fun when everybody is drunk.

We drag $1/pot for the bad beat jackpot. Quads beaten in circus games, must play two of your cards and wild card games don't count.

This would be an argument lol, no two-player would have the exact hand with the exact suit.
I feel like I’m arguing something silly, because you can make whatever rules you want and as long as everybody knows them it’s fine, but I don’t think there are many games which will value a suit to break a tie. Again, fine if that’s the way you play, but I don’t know people who play that way.

That's the way my friends played back in college. The thing I didn't like the most is they use coins for nickels and quarters!

I think we might be misunderstanding each other. When we say "kickers matter" we mean the value, not the suit. I thought you earlier meant that the "strange rule" was that the kicker value mattered and was used to determine a winner (which actually is the real poker rule), but I know understand it as you used the suits to avoid splits? If so, then yes that's a strange rule.

on a wet board we play God's Game the next hand - :diamonds::diamonds::diamonds:
if the pot is over 100 (.25 / ,50) you can run it twice if all in

And NO CHOPPING! (I mean its Omaha, I've only seen 1 chop around 2 am once so far this year)

Did you ever need a floor ruling on whether it was a head shot or mostly shoulder? :ROFLMAO:
Actually yes. And also mango trees do something like a false fruiting where just before the primary mangos finish the tree drops this little tiny undeveloped mangos (perhaps to give the animas something to eat so they leave the main mangos alone?). So those have hot people and we had to have a vote on weather those counted or not. The consensus was that they were ineligible :)

Do you offer bike helmets to players?

I found a gif of Eloe's game

I like how he (Eloe) raises his hands in victory at the end... :D
