I recently purchased these chips:

Breakdown:
366 x T5
382 x T25
449 x T100
237 x T500
139 x T1000

I know I dont need them all. Especially not the 100s I think. Just looking for a set for a home game with family. Enough chips for 8 people.

How should i break it up?

366 T5s is way more chips than you need for 8 players... most tourney sets have starting stacks with ~12x of the first few chips and a couple of the big chips. The biggest chip(s) is only used when coloring up.

Your set can accommodate around 30 players.

500 chips, good for up to 10-player T5- or T25-base tournaments, or single table low-stakes 5c/10c and 25c/50c cash games. Keeping another 100 x 500 (to be used as $5) would be useful if cash game stakes ever got higher.

Thank you so much. What would be the starting stack size usually? I read around 200 BB?

For T5-base: 10/10/12/1 or 10/10/7/2 creates T2000 starting stacks (200BB with 5/10 opening blinds).

For T25-base: 12/12/5/6 creates T10000 starting stacks (200BB with opening 25/50 blinds).

The larger chips can be added or removed to create starting stacks to meet your specific needs.
