First of all, credits for photos:
  • The Mirage is from chipguide.com (thank you for the work you do!)
  • The Dunes is from Spinettis (great selection of chips - go buy some!)
  • Rest are my own
Why a House Mold Set? (Besides the obvious answer: they are awesome!)
Lightbulb moment occurred a couple weeks ago. Friends, who never show interest in chips, suddenly lit up at the idea of playing with house mold chips from casinos they recognize, especially if some chips are live. I asked about a set that is all from one casino...much less interest. Mixed set is where it's at and if a mixed house mold gets my friends excited to play, then maybe this is where I should invest.

Re-label?
Over label only. And I'd prefer to minimize the amount of that.

What Chips Do I Already Have?
I own 2 racks of Lucky 21 hot-stamped 5s. I love these and intend to use them as nickels - a barrel a head. Cuz, yes, those are the stakes I play! None of the other chips in quantity yet.

Proposal #1
This is my dream (but unrealistic) lineup. I already have the Lucky 21 chips. I can get the Luxor, Mandalay Bay, and Caesar's. Getting a rack or more of the Cache Creek is probably going to be impossible (or if possible, at a high price).

with the Mirage $3 or Dunes $100 as the $100:

Proposal #2
I am strongly leaning this way. Much more attainable. Cache Creek as or Dunes as $100. I don't think the Sundance $5 works quite as well, but it is still fine and I can get racks. Yes, it is red and the Lucky 21 is pink, but in real life they are distinguishable, even in dim (that pink really fluoresces!). And playing 5c/10c, I don't expect more than a couple $5s on the table as value chips. Also, less over-labeling, particularly if I go with the Dunes $100.

Proposal #3
The Resort World $2 as a nickel looks great and fits progression. The peach color matches the Mandalay Bay perfectly. But 2 strikes against this lineup. Harvesting $2 chips for both the nickel and quarter will get pricey. Also, the grey GN (as much as I love it) blends a bit too much with the $1 in dim light - and they will get a lot of play together.

Proposal #4
This one is also pretty attainable (except for the Flamingo - probably would have to be replaced by Caesar or something else). But I don't really like how it looks. And no nickel in this lineup.

A photo of some of my house molds, so let me know if you want to see more chips side by side (for my benefit or for yours)!

I like the first three, but #4 is hard no for my tastes.
Yeah, I was trying to build around the Wynn, because it is relatively easy/cheap to obtain. But I just don't like it. Maybe my bad attitude about it spread to my choices for the other chips in the line up.

If anyone else has suggestions, I'd appreciate it. I'm going to start committing real money to this project tomorrow.

Here is where I am right now. Thanks to @casinochipper22 for the Luxors and Mandalay Bays. Thanks to @CacheCreekCollector for more chips coming in the mail. Thanks to @CHIPnD for the Lucky 21 pinks. And thanks to @BirdCage for inspiring me to go down this road in the first place.vvI am looking for one more rack of Luxor, 1 more rack of Mandalay, 2 to 3 barrels of Caesars, and as many Cache Creek as I can get.

Some questions I'm turning around in my head. I'm looking for opinions!
  • Does the Sundance look like a mismatch to you too? Should I stop overthinking and just stick with them or should I ditch them?
  • Should I sub in the Lucky 21 as the $5 and just make this a base 25c set?
  • Should Luxor be 25c and Mandalay as $1 or reversed?
  • Would it be crazy to make the green Caesar my $5 and then the Cache creek my $20? Or leaving Caesar as a $2 and making Cache Creek $10?
  • How do I get Cache Creek to work in this (assuming I cannot get enough to make it the $5)?
  • Is there a better line up that I'm missing?

  • Does the Sundance look like a mismatch to you too? Should I stop overthinking and just stick with them or should I ditch them? no, sundance look sweet. a bit better condition would be the nuts though
  • Should I sub in the Lucky 21 as the $5 and just make this a base 25c set? NO, solids should be the lowest fracs, right?
  • Should Luxor be 25c and Mandalay as $1 or reversed? i don't think so, because... vegas baby!
  • Would it be crazy to make the green Caesar my $5 and then the Cache creek my $20? green $5 seems a little odd. Or leaving Caesar as a $2 and making Cache Creek $10? maybe that would be cool, but that is a lot of denoms
  • How do I get Cache Creek to work in this (assuming I cannot get enough to make it the $5)? they would be best as a $5
  • Is there a better line up that I'm missing? always. that is why you should build like 10 different housemold sets so you don't miss anything.

You could consider Aria $5's as a red $5. A buddy of mine who works their just told me they have some newer $5's in the mix! Then you won't be handcuffed with the availability/condition issues of sundance or cache creeks.

If you cannot acquire the Cache Creek in a sufficient desired amount then it makes a fine $20 chip. Or even perhaps a $25 chip, if u wanna be bold.

However if you make this a base 25c set and can manage to find at least 4 barrels of Cache Creek $1s, edge spot progression be damned, I would absolutely LOVE to see some relabeled yellow fracs!

Yeah, 4 barrels might be achievable and it would make a beautiful frac. Then I could make the Mandalay or Luxor the $5. As a $20, it is even more achievable as I don't need more than 2 or 3 barrels, so I'm halfway there. But I also love the green Caesar chip. Hmmm...if spot progression be damned, then maybe I make the green chip the frac and the cache creek the $20?

I'll cogitate on it. And maybe a rack of Cache Creek will shake loose in the meantime.

I've mocked up a some label options for fracs.

I like the spot progression better as pink nickel >> Luxor 25c >> Mandalay $1. But I like the original Luxor label as is (and I don't like the Mandalay label). So I'm learning toward relabeling Mandalay 25c and leaving Luxor as $1.

What looks better? Any suggested edits to my new labels?

The almond Tropicana LV $1 works as a great frac, but good luck getting them in quantity.
I considered them, but decided to go with Mandalays and Luxors. I already have a rack of each.

Here's an idea that just came to me...what if I made my $1 chips a rat rod mix of $1 house molds? Keep my rack of Luxors as a base, add a barrel of Excalibur and 4 Queens and Silvertons and Resorts World. Infill with other $1 white house mold chips from wherever till I have 2 racks. I can even add an old, white Tropicana if I can find one. Even the occasional THC white $1 if it is really cool. Is that crazy?

Crazy like a fox! If you do it, make sure you get a 2-tone Four Queens chip

That is beautiful. This could be a great, almost never ending project as I continue to add new (or rather new to the set) chips years, slowly replacing the bulk chips (e.g. Luxors) one at a time. So many options and ways to get representation from various casinos into the set that I could not otherwise.

That quarter Four Queens with white + pink is gorgeous! But it would dirty stack with my nickels. So, I'd have to pass. I'll admire from a distance.

Working on graphics for Cache Creek $5 over label. I don't know what came over me and decided to take inspiration from the old Circus Circus $5.00 label.

I don't know if I love it or hate it.

Okay, thanks to @JRald07 I'm now the proud owner of racks of $5 Stardusts. I like the look of the Cache Creek more...but...Stardust!

I am losing the Lucky 21 nickels. What do you guys think of the below line up?

Here is another approach. The detroit peach I think is a match for the spots on the Mandalay and the Stardust. But then I'd have to go and acquire detroit fracs and I'd lose the Luxors.

And yet one more approach:
1711583690366.png

Here's what I have to work with:
  • 220 Mandalays (most sharp enough to over label)
  • 120 Luxors (most sharp enough to over label) + 80 rat rod $1 white house molds from various casinos
  • 260 cache creek (probably 70% can over label and rest too worn)
  • 400 Stardust
  • 100 Caesars relabeled and 60 original labels
  • 5 of the Dunes
