Hey everyone! I started playing poker in college but since my buddy is graduating with his chips, I'm looking to get my own home game set! I have been lurking PCF for a while now and have bought some samples here and there. After handling China Clay and ceramics, my selection has been narrowed down to ceramic chips from either BR Pro Poker or Sun Fly (did not like how slick the Empires and Taj Mahals from Apache were, I think they are Tina?) but unfortunately with the high price point of the Sun Fly samples I may just settle on the BR Pro chips (not in love with any of their stock chips/edge alignment = $$$). Would appreciate any advice... or samples :)

Hello, Apache is china clay I believe.

I suggest looking for some Greek hybrid samples, they are closer to what you might be looking for and better price point.

There is a monthly group buy going on.

Welcome and happy hunting!
Thanks for the suggestion! The GB looks like they're Tina China Clay right? The biggest issue I have with at least Apache's China Clays is the uneven size of $1 and $5 barrels. Do you know if that's the case for Tina China Clay/does Apache also source from Tina for their China Clays?

Welcome, what part of Georgia?
Atlanta area! What about you?

just moved from Athens, go dawgs! But im at the coast now, sorry, would've given you some samples to feel.

Tinas refer to custom ceramic chips, they feel and look very different from what we call China clays here. Personally I strongly prefer the custom ceramics over china clays but you may feel very differently.

Ah I see so correct me if I'm wrong but the ceramics from Apache (Empire and Taj Mahal) should feel the same as the Tina GB that @justincarothers is doing? Found the Apache ceramics to be extremely slippery especially when a barrel would topple over when moved forward for an all in.

They are not China clay, believe they are ceramics and the Greek hybrid have a recessed area for labels similar to regular casino chips

Great question. They will definitely be more slippery than clay chips, but some are worse than others. My no-molds become slippery and are unstable after a while, but the newer ones have a recessed center which cuts down on the slipperiness.

Any opinions when compared with BR Pro ceramics? Found the BR Pro ones to be super flat and not slippery

Just my opinion: BRpro is a fantastic company and their chips are better for quality control, but I don't like the shiny/smooth edges and found them way more slippery than my textured no molds. The more I use no-molds, they are less stable in stacks but I still prefer their feel and the matte edges. For the price I'm very happy.

To separate two terms: BRpro is much flatter and will be more stable in stacks, but they feel more slippery to me. Textured tina no-molds are less slippery, but stack worse and are not as flat. Sorry, wanted to specify the difference in semantics.

Welcome to PCF! I say skip a semester and spend the money on a great set of CPC! ;)
