Hello Everyone (1 Viewer)

Welcome to PCF!

Yes, read this guide with a budget and a game in mind (ex. full ring NLHE.) The guide will help you pick breakdowns and chips that fit in your budget. Any specific questions, feel free to use search and ask away. Lots of knowledgeable folks around.
Thank you. My first question is where should I buy a 1,000 chips set? Looking for full ceramic and ability to play cash and tournament. Secondly, i see chip sets on the forum but unsure if those are for sale? I’m looking to spend $1,000 total. Thank you

$1000 puts you in good position to buy new custom or stock ceramics. 1000 chips should fit two separate sets, cash and tourney. You can use a high-stakes cash set as your tournament set but don't reuse chips between the two- you don't want a T25 sneaking into your cashgame and becoming $25 out of your bankroll.

First, buy samples:

- "Cards mold" or "Tina hybrid" from Apache Poker Chips or Broken Arrow Cardroom Supply or the classifieds
- BR Pro Poker ceramic from their site or the classifieds
- Optional: Sunfly samples from the classifieds

https://www.pokerchipforum.com/forums/broken-arrow-cardroom-supply.172/
https://brpropoker.com/
https://www.pokerchipforum.com/forums/poker-chip-forum-classifieds.25/

Once you figure out what you like and are confident about your breakdown, buy your set(s).

Love that and I will look into this. Could you give me a good breakdown of chip denom I should be thinking about for 1,000 chips? I really want the standard 1,5,25,100 chips for cash but unsure of breakdown and beyond those denom. Thank you

Welcome to PCF! What is your normal game and stakes? Cash or tourney?

It would most likely be more tournament than cash BUT I value the chips setup for cash game more than tourney.

You can do a hybrid set, but as mentioned above, you might want separate sets for security reasons. A good generic breakdown is 400/300/200/100. presuming your playing 1/2 cash. If you're doing 2/5 or something you could probably go with fewer ones. Same with tourneys using the traditional cash denoms. Read up on this site and play around with the chip calculator.

Could you give me a good breakdown of chip denom I should be thinking about for 1,000 chips?

Cash - 600 Chips

I love the breakdown of

25c x 100
$1 x 200
$5 x 200
$20/25 x 80
$100 x 20

Because it also a good breakdown for 25/25, 50/50, 50/$1 if the group felt the game stake is too big or too small, they can always adjust accordingly.

If you're playing 1/2, bump each denom up.

$1 x100
$5 x200
$20/25 x200
$100 x80
$500 x20

Tourney - 400 Chips

I highly recommend the following 400-chip set for a 10-player T25-base tournament:

120 x T25
120 x T100
50 x T500
75 x T1000 (includes 15x for T25 and t100 color-ups)
35 x T5000 (includes 5x for T500 color-ups, plus 30 extras to be used for stacks > 10K and re-buys/add-ons)
--------------
400 chips

This set supports 10 starting stacks from 5K up to 25K (12/12/5/6/x), includes sufficient chips for color-ups, and has enough T5000 chips to support 4xT5000 re-buys for 20K events.

@RoamingBuffal0, you won't find better denomination breakdown advice than that post above ^^.

As for which chips to buy, best advice is to get samples, read a lot, and ask questions. Although you may like how a certain chip looks in pictures, it isn't until you have real chip samples in your hand that you can really decide what type of chip is right for you.
