Waiting List
I'm glad I found this forum, there is such great info here on poker chips! I recently purchased several small sets of poker chips, and then, found this forum. I suppose that is tradition around here for new members, a right of naive passage.
I play 1/2 and tournaments at the local casino in town, but a bunch of my friends have gotten into hosting .25/.50 home games this past year, and playing at a home game is actually fun, and not miserable like the casino can be. We switch off hosting, and I've decided to buy some nicer poker chip sets, and some ridiculous cheap fun ones, to make for a better environment. I love having big stacks at the table, so why not play with some plaques and 300 fracs at a $50 buy in?
I found a deal on these 80's faux mother of pearl plaques, and I did spend a bit on some Bakelite/Catalin chips. I'm not a fan of taking something vintage and putting on a shelf or in glass case just to be seen, I want to use that piece of history. I know Bakelite chips are common, but I just like that idea of playing with chips that people have been raking in pots with for nearly 100 years. These chips have more work to do!
I also bought a cash game set of Desert Heat. Reading a bit about them here, I probably should have just saved up for some Paulson's, but they are a nice upgrade for now. I'm still waiting for all of those to ship. I snagged some (clay?) grey and orange plaques off eBay a month ago, 60 for $45. They aren't like any off these plastic plaques that are all over, and I can't find anything similar online right now, but it was a great find and deal.
I am new to all of this chip stuff, but I am enthralled.
