Grand Budapest Hotel & Casino (2 Viewers)

I would do a Cali color, 25c = red, 1 = blue, 5 = yellow, 25 = purple

Man those GB Hotel chips you are designing are just super super cool! I have been lurking around but just had to make an account to compliment you. Would absolutely loooove to own a set of 500/700 of those. Amazing work! Would be awesome to see an GB Hotel inspired poker mat as well..

@Voxvox I know and it really hurts but there is no similar color in the CPC palette.. I tried to emulate the colors of the hotel facade with the edge spots on the red chip, the red being the carpets inside

Ahh that's why you are changing the color scheme right? I feel your orginal colors were the best coloe scheme. (+ the light blue you added).

Your first chip idea could be an cool ceramic chip set though - you would be able to keep the vibrant colored hotel image in the middle as well.. Just a thought.

Ceramic set is already in the works and will be centered around the Crossed Keys Society from the movie. I am currently figuring some stuff out with a fiverr artist regarding the graphic design but I can share the chips. I tried to keep it simple and elegant, I also have a special idea for a faux mold. But I want to finish the other set before I get down the next rabbit hole :)

Niceee! Will be interesting in seeing the faux mold idea as well. Can't wait to see the graphics on these ceramics!

By the way are you doing the ceramic chips in europe?

Consider using 2 inlays with the vector graphic of the hotel on the reverse.

I think I'm going with Tina, but not finally decided.

Considering a two-sided label, but the vector of the hotel will be way too complex to put on a 0.75inch label. Will have to figure this one out still.

Did you ever order these? I always thought it was a great theme and you did well on the chips / insert

@Machine so happy to hear that you are remembering my set!

I had to deal with some private happenings in the past couple of months, so I was not really active on here.

I actually have received my order last week, and I must say they turned out beautifully!! I will try and provide some pictures by the end of the week :)

Hello everyone!
I finally found some time to dress up my prized possessions and take some pictures. Please note that they are not cleaned neither oiled yet, so this is basically "out of CPC box" condition, I just can't find the time to clean them one by one. In case anyone has tips on efficiently cleaning them, this is much appreciated!

A huge thank you to @mattross1313 who was my main sparring partner in designing and made this whole journey incredibly fun! And also all of you in this thread, being so king with all your feedback and the evolvement of what was once just a quick idea turned out so great!

Anyways, here go the pictures - Let me know what you think :)

Grab your chips, a bottle of mineral oil, a soft rag (I use a microfiber rag so cotton fibers don’t get left behind). Grab a TV dinner tray or ottoman or whatever, cover it with a towel to be safe, turn on Ted Lasso or any show that doesn’t require your full attention.

Grab a barrel, put a tiny dab of mineral oil on a cloth, wipe down the edges—only—of that full barrel.

If the oil on the cloth easily covers the barrel and makes it glisten- you’ve added too much. If you have to go over some areas again—without adding more oil—to spend the oil, you’ve added enough. If you have to add another drop of oil, well….

Wipe the edges, then quickly wipe off any excess that seeped between chips onto the face. You’re not polishing, just quick wipes. Few chips should need more than a quick circle.

Put the barrel in a plastic rack and go to the next one.

Shouldn’t take long, perhaps you’ll finish during the show.

At some point in the future—before your first use—grab the racks, lift the barrels and check for any excess that seeped down onto the rack. If there is any, wipe it and wipe the bottom of the barrels.

Done. Sealed and colors will pop.

Not hard at all. Anything above and beyond is a matter of preference.

P.S. I too would love to see these lightly oiled. The color should really deepen (and Anderson seems to favor rich color in his films).

But I use the water method. A little goes a long way—maybe a half a capful per 300 chips. I use a salad spinner, not actually spinning in, just dunking the chips several times, hand-agitating for full coverage… Then I set them out to dry.

You can rub them down, but with light oiling I find just giving each chip a twist on the drying surface (bath towels) as you turn them
over is enough.

Amazingly well done! Beautiful set and I love the 50cents!

Looking forward to see them oiled!

I think you should do a new thread for this: Presenting: Grand Budapest Hotel & Casino.

Not enough people are going to see this because they think its a dated thread.

Love these so much! Great job and congratulations! If only they didn't have crazy denominations on them  :ROFLMAO:

Seriously though, get them oiled up and send us more pics please!

@mattross1313 congrats mate, you killed it as always

Hi guys,

everyone that is still following this thread might be interested in the recent developments. I still have not gotten around to cleaning the chips, but I am excited to tease the progress on the future storage of my beloved Grand Budapests. Presenting:

Box is not yet finished, this is only the top. I still need to cover it with felt from the inside and build wooden chip racks :)
