Fugly Poker Table Thread (40 Viewers)

Here's one for the fans of wood race tracks. It's the all wood race track table. At least there are no cup holders in the track.

Here is a beauty from Lancaster PA (@Pokerdweebz should run out and jump on this)

Brand New poker table I just built. Has holes cut out for drinks/cup holders. Folding legs to store easily. Soft suede for the finish and very comfortable padded arm rests. Sits 10 people, 8 very comfortable - $350

This bad boy is down to $150. Get it now before it ends up in the free section.

With cup holders in the playing surface chips get lost in them, cards fall in them. Slide under cupholders are so much better.

No they don't. I built THREE tables like this a few years ago. I used them in two six-game, 30 player league tournaments. And well over 200 hours in cash games. I can count on one hand how many times chips fell into a cupholder, and can't remember a single time a card did.

Either there's a drink in the cupholder, or the player sitting there recognizes that there's a freaking hole there and is careful about it. It might be counter-intuitive, but it was never a big deal.

Lucky you, because that's definitely not my experience. Countless times that errant chips ended up in a cup holder, and at least three card decks ruined by damage caused by hitting the cup holder edge during flight, not to mention the countless times that they caused a card to be exposed. Plus there's a frickin' HOLE where the playing surface should be.

One of the worst ideas ever, second only to wooden racetracks. People that combine the two should be perma-barred from building/designing tables.

I don't always look at how casinos do things to determine "best practices", but the lack of in-surface cupholders and wooden racetracks found in casinos should be a hint.

Okay, this got me thinking "how could I do it better?"......... Combine the convenience of slide-under cup holders into an integrated in-table solution that avoided the drawbacks of holes-in-the--table.

Envision one of those sliding puzzle tile thingies, modified where you could slide your own cup holder into any location along the playing surface just inside of the rail:

Essentially a cup-holder racetrack (all fabric-covered), with two different kinds of pieces -- those containing a cup holder, and those (spacer) pieces that are just flat. Don't like where your cup holder is located? Slide it over until you're comfortable. Interchangeable pieces allow everybody to have 'em located where they want, with all gaps between the holders filled by the flat pieces.

For a round table, all pieces are the same curved style. The curved ends on an oval table pose a minor problem, but still doable. Not really possible on an elipse.

Skip the slides and put in cupholders all the way around the rail, almost like decorative nails. Then build mushroom-shaped fillers for all but 10 cupholders. Then you can just remove the mushroom where you want your cupholder, and drop it into an open slot where you don't want it.

That is a pretty good idea actually!

Obviously Ferguson is on the lower right, and I assume that's Moneymaker on the upper left, but I cant place the other two.

Oh my god.
And the chairs match the table - the seats are upholstered with that velvet looking burgundy table top fabric and the backs are upholstered with that god-awful texas holdem "rail" fabric. We need to start a hall of fame and this needs to be in the inaugural class.
