playing 1/2 live at my local casino this week.

Sitting on $400 in the SB, crafty Lag is on the button with $180. Button is known for bluffing/agression/and applying pressure.

Other players aren't a factor (spoiler), and range from $100-$250.

Dealt . UTG straddles.

Few callers, Button limps, I call because My read is BB and UTG aren't in love with their cards... I think I can see a flop cheap. And yup, BB folds, UTG checks his option.

Pot is around $24

FYI, my observation is that the button almost always makes a pot sized bet when limped to (on the button).

If the Button is known for making bluffs and for aggression, I might lead here. Leading could very well be perceived as weak and you might get raised by Button. If I was going to lead I would make it around $18.

This may sound nitty but I check/call here. My guess is we don't want another heart coming out and if we check/raise what is our plan for the turn? Lead turn oop and have a crafty LAG behind us? What if the turn is a heart and button then raises us? Are we committing ourselves with 2nd nut flush?

Hero's villain read is this villain almost always makes a pot sized bet if given the chance - so lets give him a chance. Hero should lead out post flop vs unknowns - $20.

My only concern would be the ... However, I have a hard time imagining the button limping with an ace. So in my opinion, I have the nutz in this spot. I'm putting the button on two pair, or maybe a set? Though a set seems unlikely, as he would have raised pre with a pocket pair... I think it's in his range to have smaller suited connectors (maybe hearts?). He really could have any two cards.

Due to a couple of prior instances of me blatantly checking the nutz to the villain (I try to mix things up), I wanted to play this Hand overly fast to give an appearance I might be bluffing, or weak.

I lead out for $20. Everyone folds to the Button, who Raises to $65. He has a tad over $100 behind.

Whats next?

Jam. Villain has essentially committed his stack and I don't see how you fold. Calling pre-flop might be -EV, but so is folding here.

When he raised, I felt like he looked awfully strong. However, he's crafty, and you have to wonder if he just WANTS you to think he's strong? However, I certainly considered what hands he might have if he actually felt he was strong... Any made flush (suited connectors like or ), or did he have a weak unsuited )???

To your point. I've seen him fold, when he's bluffing (and raised all in). However, I wonder if he'd fold a naked if I shoved? Possibly...?

Aside from folding pre, once we see the flop, does this hand play out any differently? If I check the flop, and he bets or even shoves, should I find a fold with the second nutz? I think I'm calling, especially considering it's hard for me to put him on a suited ace, limped on the button...

• A push effectively gives him 3:1 odds
• A heart on the turn ruins your action from smaller flushes.

Flopping second nuts, getting it all in on the flop and losing is a definite cooler. Plus your at less than 100 bb so theres no getting away from this.

The only way Hero gets away from this is when he is playing against the most extreme versions of a passive calling station - the ones who only raise with the nuts.

In this hand, not only is Hero is stacking off vs villain, he is fist pumping while he does it.

Ya, sucky session overall... In for $300, up to $700 at one point, but was lucky to cash out for $300. Also ran into a AA vs KK hand and lost $200 to a complete fish.. Not sure how I left the casino with any money whatsoever...

I would've shoved all in too. K 9 is actually my favorite hand especially when its suited. You win some you lose some but I think with where you were you made the right call on that one.

If I had any thoughts that the BB or UTG straddle would raise, I'd have saved the $3 (and ultimately around $200). I was getting a cheap flop IMHO, and K's and 9's have been hitting the board HARD this session. Plus, I just felt like gamboling a little

I'm interested in knowing if people would feel differently if this was the scenario:

Hero is in the BB with and UTG min-raises instead of straddling. The same players call including the button and SB folds. Would this not be a hand you would protect your BB with getting the odds you're looking at? I know one crucial factor is that in this scenario Hero is closing the action, but would it really play out that much differently?

I'd still prefer a raise over flatting pre.

By calling we are just hoping to hit the flop hard and not be coolered. IMO if we are playing, play it hard and fast. Especially if we have a read that we think most are going to fold pre.

K9s, out of position, is not a hand I am eager to play. I see flatting or raising as spew unless Hero is seriously better than the table or the table is going to fold close to 100% of the time. Defending your blind can easily become the gateway to serious losses. Save your speculative chips for position plays.

And for what it is worth, most times I'd fold K9s on the button too.
