Need to add "Poker Chip Guys" to the list:

Amazing looking set and love the entire concept.

This meme cracked me up. Is it bad if someone is 3 to 4 of these? Guns, Guitars, TCG, and now chips lol. Sold some guitar stuff to finance my Jacks, guess I'll need to sell some Magic the Gathering now for more chips.

My wife fully approves of all gun purchases. She told me to get one for my birthday recently, then went in the store and bought one for herself instead while I just bought some cheap ammo.

But poker chips and board games and whiskey, I budget those purchases, but yes nobody knows how much those cost... :D

Thank you for the compliments!

I have updates. All my acquisitions since my last update are in a pile waiting to be added to the set and photographed. I have a couple big purchases on the way first, then I'll have to cool it for a while and it will be a good time to post an update.

I did get this older Burro Inn $5 (donkey facing left) and managed to clean/oil/photograph it. It's a great chip. I did arrange a family reunion.

Has your per chip cost gone up since the first post?
Excellent question. There are others doing this now, and there is a definite uptick in singles prices, on average, over the last couple years. Additionaly, by nature the first chips you get are going to have a lot of cheaper, lower-hanging fruit to pick. I'm still missing a ton of common <$10 chips, but CONDITION is a real bugger for some of them, which is why I don't have them yet. Recent aquisitions have also not included large amounts of cheaper chips, like duplicate $1s, that were more common in earlier purchases.

Old data from the OP, Feb 2022:
Transactions: 90
Chips: 796
Unique chips: 421
Average cost per chip: $6.122
Average mass of a chip: 10.430 grams

New data, May 2023:
Transactions: 211
Chips: 996
Unique chips: 588
Average cost per chip: $6.962
Average mass of a chip: 10.226 grams

My last 200 chips it seems, raised the per chip price of my first 800 by 14% or so. Meaning my average per chip price I'm paying now is up +65% or so from the first 800 chips I got. Burro Inn was a $35 chip if I recall. That does not help my $$ average at all!

At my last game, the only one of my players that is interested at all in chips was looking at some of my singles collection. He said, “it would be really cool if you got all these out and mixed them together for a game.” I laughed and told him about the trend you started. Such a brilliant idea that I wish I would have thought of. I really do enjoy seeing everyone’s rat rods.

I use a toothbrush, a toothpick, and Fels Naptha to clean all my dirty chips. The Fels attacks *organic* materials, like hooker juice, where typical soap does not do that so much. Anyway, the bar on the left lasted me about four years I think. I got my new delivery today. The old one will be retired to the garage sink, to be used on hands and arms and necks that have gotten dirty from yard work. Your poker chip work is done, little guy. Time for an easy retirement.

You play it. Play it immediately. That’s always the answer.
It is being shuffled immediately, that is for certain. I know that will flabbergast and dumbfound the collector types, but I'm not collecting these chips to put into binders and flips! They need to breathe air, hang out with their friends, and yes, be gambled with.

Here is the entry from the Campiglia/Wells 2009 "Official" casino chip price guide. The documented prices are not even close to current market value (just like most of their data, since it is 15 years old - a lot are too high, and a lot are too low, which is fascinating in itself). Despite that, I think any singles collector SHOULD get the price guide, because it provides a window into the past which is fun to observe, but mostly because it is just FULL of fun, useful stories and information. Like "30-40 known".

Between this guide, eBay, Chip Rack, and chipguide, a singles collector can get a solid grasp on most chips from most casinos. Yesterday I was reading about a casino in Deadwood that closed because the bookkeeper was murdered. I also read that the Golden Nugget house mold tournament chips were used at a Mirage pre-opening VIP party, and that several VIPs "forgot" to return some of the chips when they left.

Holy shit that green chip is an instant favorite. Idk how you rat-rod degens determine what goes into play, but that's a grail capper for me personally.
All of them. You play all of them.

I have a chip that’s only known to have 6 total in existence. It went straight on the table, and in a pot. I probably lost that pot, but still  :ROFLMAO:

It's been a good hunt the past few months, but it's also been a spell since I did a bulk "here's where I am update and here's what's new". I have been setting aside new acquisitions, so none of them are fully integrated into the set yet. I was counting those chips today, and one of the piles had the magic number "14" chips in it, which is my absolute favorite perfect most wonderful size for a shuffle stack. So I celebrated by shuffling. (Duh, what else would I do?)

I have shared some of these in various threads, but not all of them. Some of my favorite all-time $25s are in here! (Looking at you, Excalibur and Alhambra)

"Dealer, I'm all in for my last $350. Count if you must!"

Some great chips! What do you like about the Alhambra? I have a soft spot for the $1 and $5 but the $25 has not stood out to me (though I’ve not seen one in person).

Unicorn confirmed...I don't think I will ever have the guts to put the $25 into play...

love the creative use of the claw pattern. has this been done on any other chip? the only other chip that doesnt follow the standard usage of the claw pattern is the nevada hotel $100

can you please update the $5 scan on the CG. the current one doesnt do the chip any justice.

I'm a big fan of chips with edge spots that are just a different shade of the base color. Big fan. Like:
beige choc tan chip d OWN.jpg
and
green chip a.jpg
and
pink chip a.jpg
and
yellow chip a.jpg

(pics from the nice people who took them and donated them to chipguide)
