FDLmold: Rat Rod mixed .25/.25 and up leaded THC poker set (3 Viewers)

Pretty! Of those in the pile, the Gold Strike Inn (Boulder City, NV) are my favs!
Yes, but WHICH Gold Strike Inn? :D

(Pioneer, Sahara, Silver City, and Hotel Nevada had multiple pink 25c chip versions too)

Finally got around to cleaning a new batch of 50c chips. I question whether some of the Washington state chips are fully leaded. Finding when a few of those casinos opened is difficult. The $5 is an affordable South Dakota / Deadwood chip that I forgot I didn't have.

After cleaning and oiling, I got the gang together now, 118 "yellow" 50c chips. I do not regret removing spotted chips from this. I only need 100 chips, and I've found 19 Cliff Castles (over at least 12 separate transactions, those things are everywhere), so I will likely divest at least 10 of those at some point.

There are THIRTY-SEVEN unique chips in the pile, which is a fantastic variety IMO. And it's a funny number if you've ever watched the movie Clerks.

I've thought about removing the mustard chips, but there are so many good ones that I don't want to - and even if I did, there are still slight variations of "yellow" among the remaining 98 chips. In true Rat Rod style, they all belong together.

I've also thought about removing inlaid chips, but as long as there is breath in my body, I refuse to divest the Skyway Park Bowl 50c inlaid chips. And I especially refuse to ever sell the McPherson, which is a G.O.A.T. inlaid solid frac that I was lucky to find.

DIAMOND JO! ♥️

I'm a teacher. I had 17 days off for Christmas, which ends Sunday. I cleaned my man cave, organized my TCG and board game inventory, but also spent time with some Rat Rod documentation. For the stats inclined, here is exhibit 1.

I own 10 chips of 9.00 grams or less. FOR SHAME! The guilty chips:

1673160459200.jpeg1673160517086.jpeg1673160568455.jpeg1673160594455.jpeg1673160625237.jpeg1673160647123.jpeg1673160675471.jpeg1673160720966.jpeg1673160783219.jpeg1673160827405.jpeg

The Carnival, Western Village, Nevada Landing, Horseshoe, and Harrah's are easy - the casinos opened when Paulson made leaded chips - they kept the same chips and had reorders after Paulson took the lead out. For those, it's a matter of my stubborn ass finding leaded versions that weigh 10g+ or so. I do have a Carnival $1 and a Carnival $5 that are both over 9.25g, so they are out there.

The other five, though, are a little goofy. The chips were all issued well before Paulson took the lead out. There is no good reason for their masses to be < 9.00g when similar inlaid chips in similar colors from the same time period from other casinos are all 9.5g+. It's not like they're super light, they are all over 8.5g. I weighed a Hard Rock limited edition chip from 2011 yesterday for kicks and it was right near 7.00g. It's a great looking chip, but it feels like a wiffle ball compared to the baseballs I usually collect.

And I finally finished my chip lists. I had extra work from adding house molds to the mix a couple months ago.

Hundos are not a priority, but I did document them. I only buy a $100 chip if the deal is too good to pass up. It does look like I need to get cracking on Canada chips and Wet chips. But you know what doesn't come to market much? Leaded chips from Canada and Cruise Ships lol. The house mold numbers are low simply because I've spent less than 3 months even looking for them. Over half of my unique chips are Nevada issues, no surprises there. There are still 973 unique chips of 25c/50c/$1/$5/$25 denoms I could acquire. (Anybody want the list?) I'd say only half of them, or less, are affordable.

For example, it is likely that I'm never getting one of any of these, and if I did, it's too expensive to go in the set:

But you never know? So they're on the list. Chip images from chipguide.

These are NOT a big priority for me, but if my value-hunting turns one up, I will buy it. I probably overpaid for the Vegas World cash $100, but the rest I'm fine with the prices I paid. The point is that if life circumstances dictate I have to sell some chips for $$, I'll be able to get what I paid and be done. Because you just don't know what the future holds.

37? In a row?

Gold paint pen purchased and experimented with. Original chip is up a few posts.

That actually looks pretty damn good! When the chip is already messed up, you can't really hurt it any worse, and instead you improved it drastically! Thanks for sharing. I have about 20 or so that can use this treatment.

Can you show which paint pen you used and share any pros and cons you have found?

Pros:
-Pen is cheap
-Color matches hot stamp decently
-The work goes very quickly

Cons:
-Extra fine tip is still pretty wide, was hoping for something about half the diameter
-No room for error, it’s paint
Thanks! I ordered it but also ordered 2 other brands as well including an extra fine sharpie gold paint. I have 3 warped chips in a junk drawer that I can use as testers before I dive in to the salvageable ones.

Thanks for thinking outside of the box and sharing!

This is not something I would do on any chip except keepers for my Rat Rod set.

This has been done before, with varying levels of success. Really does depend on the type of wear. Not much left to guide
you if the depth of the original stamp is worn down almost completely.
