If u have too many friendships and want to lose a couple, you can add in a terrible rule that if everyone folds, the best hand matches the pot. it will not be a boring poker night.
No that’s a TRUE degens game right there!  :ROFLMAO:

Damn, this makes me want to play some F'ing CARDS!!!! Best available to me tonight is a boring old NLHE tourney or a raked cash game. Booooo.

You call it "boring old NLHE", but the poll indicates that 55.9% of the people here have some preference for it.

I haven’t heard anyone mention 727?
$1/$5 spread limit 727 with paint cards worth half a point and the under tied with the over wins. That’s a great game my friend.

Ive played that shit too, and at those stakes, im folding anything that aint aces and 5.

In tournament format I would agree that NLHE is very popular and the preferred way I like to play cards.
But I have to agree that NLHE cash at Tom’s, Dicks, Harry’s, Mikes, David’s, Franks, Joe’s, Kurt’s, Rob’s and occasionally Susan’s places on any given night of the week gets to be pretty damn boring IMO.
Still love the game but it does get tired.

What he said.

Want meant as a slight, but damn! Can't w we play other stuff, too?

I didn't really take it as a slight (I dont get a royalty check from every holdem hand played). I think it would be interesting (because I'm a stats nerd) to build a chart indicating the frequency of poker games and the preference for games played.

I hypothesize that those players that play frequently prefer circus games, and those that play seldom to rarely, prefer hold'em. Basis for the hypothesis:
  • High variance has a better chance of leveling out over many sessions, so if you are stuck today, you may even out tomorrow, rather than having to wait 6 months.
  • Far fewer hands are played in a night of "circus games". Playing frequently helps make up for those "lost" hands.
  • Nearly anything can get boring with enough repetition. Less repetition = favoritism toward a single game.
I have nothing scientific to back this up (thus hypothesis, not a theory).

Excellent analogy @Poker Zombie!

I consider myself a player of thinking games, less so than a poker player. I love board games, any card games, and puzzlesf (I LOVE backgammon, but nobody plays that). Hold'em is a great game....but it's just a single game. Also, if I had my way, Limit would be the standard.

Saying that I am a little off center would be a very fair statement.

@grebe..... You just need to think about whether or not you can make it to my game in February! :ROFLMAO:

What's the difference between Icelandic Scarney and regular Scarney? I think I've only played regular

No cards = no hand in Icelandic (i.e., you lose). Plays much better, as it prevents the Low from being locked with no chance of counterfeiting. Now when a player has one card, they are often the vulnerable party!

I don't think I've played it enough because I haven't seen a situation where someone ended up with no cards!

Canadian scarney is way better. If you have no cards left you aren't dead, but you can't raise, you can only call. I don't think I've ever seen anyone get to no cards though yet.
