It really seems like the basic spot patterns, like 3D, 4D, 3TA, and 4TA are the most popular. I thought half-moons, bear claws, 8v, 6D, and 8D would be more popular.

You're too locked on NAGB chips.

Very rarely is anything going to beat old school leaded hot-stamp chips or leaded shaped/textured inlay chips with the tried and true 3d14 and the like.

I think its the leaded aspect that evades me. I don't really care about that and am more attracted to design. For instance, I don't think enough custom CPC's get enough credit for their design and creativity.

That's fine, but you said you thought the other stuff would be more popular and I'm explaining why you thought wrong,

I usually agree with just about anything you post, but this is where I think a lot of nostolgia comes into play.
That not a single Tiger chip has been a finalist, in a literal chip beauty contest, is goofy as hell.

Like always, I'm mostly just shit-posting since Aztar rightfully won the red chip competition, but as a serious reply, there are just so many beautiful minty Canary/Yellow NAGB chips out there that odds are they're going to cancel each other out in these kinds of competitions. Despite how much you or I love Tigers, they're (cover your ears BPTDirector) oversaturated and are missing the rarity factor, along with the aforementioned shaped/textured inlays. Plus, simple inserts like 3d14s with classy but fire color choices are just old school perfection, not to mention the older clay formula produced better and more rich colors in many instances (compare new radiant red, arc yellow, horizon blue, etc. to older versions and you'll see). That may or may not have to do w/ the lead content, but since it was during the same period leaded chips were produced, they're linked together by many people.

We all come at this stuff with our own weird perspectives. As much as I'm always banging the drum for leaded chips, the feel of a textured inlay is just as important to me, maybe moreso. So I'll flat out never vote for a non-textured inlay in one of these contests. I don't know whether that's fair or rational, but we all get a vote.

I don’t think these are beauty contests lol
Yeah, "beauty contest" is probably the wrong descriptor. I agree Tigers are off the charts beautiful and well executed. In my mind, NAGBs aren't really in the running for these GOAT votes. But, if they were I'm all for just putting in the Tiger VIP2 cash set straight up. (I think if I could go back in time I would've hit the button to check out...)

I mean, to me its a beauty contest but what makes something the GOAT is in the eye of the beholder. What's interesting is that old school chips have won both so far, but they are different than the results from 6 years ago. Also there will be categories not previously voted on like brown and pink.
