F1 in Las Vegas (2 Viewers)

Yeah, no flight options either (at least for me from Europe). I’m really crossing my fingers that we’ll be able to book something direct - there’s a direct option from Zürich to Vegas during spring and summer, but seems to stop at the end of October each year.
I’ll definitely see what hotel/race packages are available.

How does it all work in common pedestrian areas like down the strip, fountains, etc? Will that all be blocked off? Only ticketed people during the race?

Traffic on the strip is terrible.
They've already had Lewis take a run around it in the sim...
Hope it's more Singapore than Saudi Arabia, I worry DRS will be too much of a thing again with the long run down the strip. Mad to think of them flying around this junction...

I sure do miss the 3.0 litres but if we're gonna dream let's go back to the mid 80's & plop a BMW M12 2.0 litre motor w/ only 4 cylinders in there!! I'm usually not a fan of forced induction but it's kinda neat when the hair on your arms stands up straight...

The "dumbing-down", or now the Americanization, of F1 continues to piss me off. It began with F1 allowing refueling, and continues with every city race that's added.

I'm assuming you meant "not allowing refueling" @pltrgyst (They're Here) & I also hope you mean Spa is an awesome track. IT IS along with a few others including Silverstone.
Totally agree there have been way too many boring ass tracks added over the last couple of years with too many walls & nowhere to pass. (We only need 1 Monaco thank you) We can watch Indy car for street courses & this Vega$ track looks like it should be one of them. (I was pleasantly surprised with Miami though so hopefully I'm wrong here too)
As far as money goes...hasn't it always been the driving force? Or was that Bernie Ecclestone?

I'm fairly new to F1 but have heard multiple places that while the top speed slower, it's still in the same range and overall lap speeds have actually come down. I found mixed/murky information about it online. Is there any truth or is it just propaganda?

That 90deg turn 5 looks annoying with no real runout.
Can book dates before and after, but the F1 weekend is blacked out it looks like, probably only selling package rooms?

I’m open to options. I’m on the mlife experience interest list. Going to talk to my dealer to see if they will have any team packages. I’ve got 2 buddies from work who are also planning on going so we will see what ends up happening. I’m expecting to spend $$$$. $$$$$ less so but yolo?

I'd have to confirm with some searching, but in many races here in the hybrid era, there have been track records set and shortest total race durations set.
I miss the sound of the older engines, but the higher speeds are quite exciting.
Don't get me started on the Tilke-dromes. What a miserable track designer with long-ass dragstrip straights funneling down into a pinch point cars can only go through single file. If one thing has diminished F1 racing in my opinion, it's some of the lousy tracks brought in during Bernie's time at the helm that don't allow for competitive racing.
As you know the F stands for Formula so when they change the formula to have more power they usually take away some downforce or tire grip & vice versa keeping lap times similar. They could CRUSH all lap times if they really wanted to if they changed the formula accordingly. Google Chapparal fan car-they could get super tricky!!!
I was at this event 3 years ago. A single one of these was louder than the entire XX field of 20 cars. A single one of those was louder than the entire field of 488 challenge.
I recommend starting at the 2 min mark to get the 333 as well.
I don’t plan to be in Vegas next November for lap records or which rich people are on the podium. Ferrari will invariably find a way to fuck it up anyway. Clearly I will be there for the commemorative chips.
No, I meant the first problem was to allow refueling. That greatly reduced the role of the driver, and increased the role of the team during the actual race. The other huge negative is the tire situation -- mandatory tire changes, requiring the use of at least two different tires, etc. Ridiculous.
And I do love Spa -- as well as Zandvoort, the original 'Ring, the original Hockenheim, Monza, etc. All the ones I drove when I lived in Germany.
The racing has always sucked at Monaco, and at terminally dull tracks like the Hungaroring.

Gotcha @pltrgyst. They literally could do the whole race w/o changing tires or refueling if tyre compounds were changed. I suppose it's to keep the lesser teams closer & to add excitement.
Can't tell you how many times I've run the 24hrs of Nurburgring in the simulator. Yes, all 24. The Nordschleife is by far my favorite track of all time. Other than scuba in the great barrier reef its the only thing on my bucket list...

I think the Safety Car currently plays the biggest roll. Just look at last year's robbery @ Abu Dhabi. Yes, I'm still bitter but glad the guy who made that poor decision lost his job/he's rich he'll be fine!!
If they always went to a Virtual Safety Car the gaps would still exist making it fair for the leaders but would be less exciting for the fans...just look at Abu Dhabi : )
