Euros 2020 (8 Viewers)

For me the biggest simulator penalty in history was Del Piero (a artiste for that)

I thought it was a penalty, at worst it wasn’t clear and obvious that it was the wrong decision. The VAR referees have done a pretty good job this tournament.

he was so good at it he got a yellow showing the ref how the other player should have done it.
La cartalina giallo….love it, only reason I say that is because my daughter is leaving for Italy next Friday :( to play in the Women’s Serie A, (when it commences) so been giving her a few words to look out for.
Btw Del Piero was some player at his peak.

He was dead until the goal went in. I'll hear nothing about diving from anyone supporting Italy lol
Sterling did the same last night. Went down like a sniper had shot him and then made a better comeback than Lazarus when England won the ball back. So obvious the commentators said he’s “done an Immobile” :ROFLMAO:

As for Italy and diving…

Looking back at this, the penalty was a 'soft' one, but a penalty none the less. Had a Danish player touched the ball, then no penalty.

I would like to see how many players could dribble at some pace, get contact from 2 players and would be able to stay up, unless you have the balance of Messi of course.

Its easy to see this in slow motion and say 'Amateur! Sterling just dived'

Anyway, I am buzzing still! Should be a great final this Sunday, cannot wait.

get contact from 2 players
How many? You mean from 1 player and the contact came as he began his descent towards the ground.

Would you consider Arsene Wenger and Jose Mourinho amatuers?

Lets not forget to mention the 2 balls on the pitch which should have halted the game and the scummy English fan shining a laser on Kaspers face during the penalty.

Im predicting a 3-0 victory to the Azzurri in the final because nothing gives me more pleasure than giving it to whinging poms over football.

This is the kind of penalty that we always have for teams like France, the English and other great footballing nations (and it's the same with clubs). We never whistle this kind of penalty for other so-called small teams.

The same action would never have been whistled for Denmark, especially in overtime. This is called home arbitration.

In slow motion everything looks dramatic. But no Danish player touched the ball, yet there was contact. In the modern game any contact in that area is dangerous, yes its soft, I dont particularly like it, but hey ho, the decision was done.

Yes Wenger and Mourinho have opinions, but relevant ones? In my opinion, not really, neither has played themselves at the top level and both come from a time when tackles/contact was common. I cant imagine either of themselves to be able to dribble at pace, carrying the ball and if they have contact, stay up.

I agree the 2 balls on the pitch was not good. But if play stops automatically as a rule. Then what precedent does that set going forward? If a team is counter attacking, some ball boy decides he doesnt want the team to score, let me throw a ball on the pitch? Home advantage would be ridiculous since it would be local ball boys that decide to stop the play.

I agree the laser was as scummy thing to do.

Lets not forgot the freekick for the Dane goal was questionable? FIFA Rules: "Where three or more defending team players form a 'wall, all attacking team players must remain at least 1m (1 yrd) from the 'wall' until the ball is in play," That was clearly not the case. Yes the freekick itself was superb, I cannot deny that was a quality shot. But the wall in front was illegal.

We can cherry pick everything, but decisions went for and against on both sides, but it seems when England gets a decision, the rest of the world forgets everything else.

The second ball didn't impact the game, and therefore didn't matter imo.

But seriously, that exact penalty probably shouldn't have been called considering how strict the refs have been on calling free kicks and penalties in general in this tournament. (which I like a lot by the way)

2-1 was still a fair result tough.

Honestly I don't think Sterling was diving, I think he was off balance from the initial encounter and the little bit of contact was enough to send him to the ground. If he was planning to dive he would've fallen during the first part of thechallenge.

As far as the second ball, it hasmd zero impact on the play.

And as far as the laser pointer goes, that was absolutely ridiculous. They should find the idiot who did that and perma ban him. But let's not forget Schmeichel (who was a beast yesterday) DID save the penalty lol. I don't think it had any affect on the play.

I have family in town so I've been forced to watch the games on delay. So can't participate on the bantering.

As far as yesterday's penalty is concerned, here's my view: my opinion on replay is that it was NOT a penalty. However, as a referee, it certainly looked like it, so he called it. The replay did not provide enough to overturn imo. Those things happen and I've seen much worse calls.

Now, why I don't think it is a penalty? Because I think there is almost always 'some' contact between players. So the question is if the contact was strong enough to disrupt the offensive player. I don't think it was. There were other cases in which there was a LOT more contact disrupting the play and not even a word was uttered about it (Lukaku first goal and Lewandowski header goal, in which both clearly pushed the defender).

As a disclaimer, I had a favorite team in almost all the games during the tourney. Not yesterday. I felt there was a great story (for different reasons) with either team as Italy's dance partner in the finals. So 100% neutral.

But football LOVES controversy!!

So we’re agreed: Retrospective red card for Sterling and Denmark to take England’s place in the final  :ROFLMAO:
