Drdr's creation journey of a new poker lounge (7 Viewers)

Nice - first two look really cool.

I found the below when looking for examples on PCF. I don’t have has much open space but I think I prefer the darker vs lighter setup. This is kinda what I’ll need to do with the garage door as well (so instead of one big fixture, probably a couple smaller pendant lights that can be easily added/removed):

@drdr - I’ll create another thread for my poker room build - don’t want to derail your updates! Interested to see what options you go with and I may selectively liberate your design choices ;)

Do you have any examples of this?

My garage will be my poker room (will have new dimmable LED lights but not great for the room I think, even with them dimmed slightly might feel like morgue lighting). I used to have a cheap but cool Ikea lamp that hung over my old setup and the height was adjustable. I started looking online for a height adjustable pendant light (might need it to be removable as well).

Try searching under "adjustable", "retractable", "pull down", and "pulley" lights

There are also ones like this that swing out of the way, which could work depending on the space:

If you get lights on a chain, you can make an s shaped hook to shorten the chain by using it to couple the shortened links. Credit to my wife for this. I’ll post a photo later. Works great!! Made from a wire coat hanger hook end. Very easy.

I was just on AirBnB and out of curiosity searched on homes with poker/game rooms. A lot came up. Most of them are pretty bland / boring compared to rooms made by PCF members. For the most part these look like rooms created by folks who do not play very often or just thought it would be cool to have a game room. Still it is interesting to see what choices people make.

Very cool lighting options everyone. Height adjustable a good idea to hedge against getting height wrong initially.

No progress on room. Sadly, the other house hasn't sold to unlock funds.

Progress stalled.
But the other house sold. So funds and time are a little more plentiful.
Had to pause the games due to a run of hot weather 35 - 42 C. So aircon/heating being installed at end of month. That's kind of renovating.

Great space for a dedicated room is always fun to visualize , then design to a theme to make it look fantastic.
I started with a room with a blank slate. Initially, I went with an NHL Hockey theme, which allowed me to display my hockey memorabilia, lighted beer signs, etc.
Having done that, what I really preferred was to have a nice workable table, meaning to sit 8 comfortably with banquet chairs, a custom cloth for the table, etc.
Of course, having bar set up with ice maker, fridge, drink dispensers etc is all part of the design aspect.

One of my favorite casinos from many visits to Vegas was the Mirage. We stayed in many of the resorts there,

Over the past few years, I redid my table, removing the racetrack, made new wider rail with jumbo cup holders, under table pull out snack trays a new custom Mirage cloth, Mirage Tribute chips from Justin, and a Mirage based theme for the room. I'll likely change the theme again some day, just to keep it fresh.

I guess, long story short, having a great looking table, comfy chairs, nice chips, and a nice bar is pretty much the most important of all.
Any extras like hot dog roller, popcorn machine just adds to the atmosphere.

Good Luck with your room design and theme going forward.

Thanks for post. Made me realise I don't have a theme. Well, beyond my game's name. Possibly iswhy I'm struggling a bit on room design planning.

Hopefully that will spur you on to design something spectacular. Can't wait to see the final product.
Here are my chips which are a match to my table and room theme.
