Does anyone use Chipco ceramics for their home games? (1 Viewer)

Not Chipco ceramics, never really cared for the look of the mandatory white outer ring. Too many design restrictions.

I do have a set of PGI full-face printed ceramics, and two sets of 43mm Sun-Fly hybrids (ceramics with center recess and laminated labels).

Hybrids and GOCC ceramics are two of the high-end ceramics in today's market, imo. ABC also produces very high-quality work.

most members here prefer a clay Paulson type chip for their games
Doug, that's mostly true. Paulson and TRK are probably top two around these parts. After that it's a hodgepodge of custom CPC's, BCC, Bud Jones, other clays (custom or reclaimed casino ASM's, supergems, etc), Sun-Fly hybrids, and Matsuis.

There are definitely some ceramic lovers out there - @Potsie1 comes to mind - who have some amazing sets. But as ceramics go, older Chipcos are some of my least favorite. I much prefer what GOCC, ABC, and the now/soon to be defunct PGI were able to do. I can't stand Sun-Fly's current basic blanks (their edges are all tapered for some reason which drives me up the wall), but their hybrids are pretty phenomenal.

As for my snapper collection...I have a handful of ceramics in there, but I generally shun them.

Thanks to @v1pe I get to put these in play Saturday. Its a mix of chipcos and custom ceramics made by @OldWestPokerSupplies . I prefer to use ceramics if theyre newer with vibrant colors otherwise heavy ware makes them unattractive.

The pink is extremely vibrant. Those add-on chips came out great. I remember the sample set. Definitely one of the brightness ceramics that I've seen. OWPS/ABC right?

Not Chipco (like BGinGA I really dislike the "white ring"), but I still put ceramics in play at least once a year.

This thread also made me realize that I don't have any pics with just my ceramic chips. I guess I'm going to have to remedy that this afternoon...

  • I have a mixed casino cash set and a Caribbean Poker Classic tournament set. I bought both with mint or near mint chips for very low prices, and I like both sets very much. They do get play, but not as much as they should. I guess I have too many other choices I like a little more.

I have a 12 year old Chipco custom set that I used half the time in my league. My players liked the different feel from month to month switching out between Chipco chips and custom ASM chips. Mine have seen 40 or so 6 hour tournaments and still look almost new.

I have a decent size Hard Rock Alberquerque set that I use for cash after 40-50 person tournaments a few times per yr. With that many people throwing chips around I just feel more comfortable using the ceramics plus my set can cover more than 1 cash table.

Thanks everyone for he input.

Personally I always loved the Chipcos (Especially the Plaques).

This for me was the first manufacturer who allowed complete control of nearly full faces artwork and even edge printing.

My first personal chip made was a Chipco and still my favorite.

With that being said, my main poker set I use for my games are Paulsons.

Thanks again to everyone for the feedback

I have a set of Caribbean Poker Classics that are on loan to my local tourney group and used weekly. When I host a tourney, I use my CPS China clays.

My cash games are always Paulson (Empress Joliet or Aztar Evansville).

My goal is to get a custom cash set from CPC, but I'm also strongly considering a set of custom ceramics for tourneys. I like the ability to do big graphics on ceramics, and I have a few ideas that would work much better there than on inlays.

Now, y'can't be sayin' things like that around here without posting up a picture or two of them, so let's see that set of yours!

Strangely enough for a guy that has hundreds of thousands of chips in his collection, my poker set is rather plain.

However it was an anniversary gift from my wife and did come directly from the Paulson Store in Gulfport.

From what I am told this color blue is no longer available due to lead content. We try not to put these in our mouths when playing poker.....

While these are fairly plain, my poker Room itself is not and I will post some pictures of that sometime.
My walls are covered in vintage Casino slot glass and other casino memorabilia.

By the way, here is a link to a post I made on the Chipboard a while back showing off over 170 different of my personal chips. I have now made over 200 different.

You can see the Yellow Chipco in the 3rd row on the first picture and second picture (the back).

This was the chip that started my obsession with making personal chips.

how I decorated my Poker Room
LOVE those Paris jeton, Lucky Dragon plaque, and uncut inlay sheets displays!!! Great stuff, man!

Thanks, but not all the impressive to me.
You have something that many of us never even had a chance to get once we started chippin'. Might not be impressive to you, but I bet there's a member or two here that would sacrifice their left pinky to have a TRK or Paulson custom monogrammed set of their own in a nice case like that.

The case alone would be a find...cant hardly find nice cases like that any more.

Thanks, my favorite piece is this framed sample group that has original box labels along with a sample from the company making that chip. Most are from Burt but I also have a nice TR King.

I guess I'm an oddball (again), but I like Chipco chips. My first expensive (to me) set was a Chipco set I bought about 15-20 years ago. Still have them, and I still like them.
