Do you take rake when hosting a game? (1 Viewer)

Very comfortable playing in raked games, but no I dont, solely because of my stakes: 5c/10c, feels silly to take anything out of the pot lol.

Weve talked about a door fee because we're the only host and food/drink gets expensive, but usually just ask that people take turns ordering or pitching in. Dont want to make it weird.

Nope, would never play at a raked game.

Scenario:

You play in a raked game.

Game gets busted, because someone called and tipped off law enforcement (for any reason)

The host is now arrested, and you have a federal subpoena to appear in a federal court.

You’re just a player, along with every other player, which immediately turns into survivor games…

First to help the FBI agent assigned to the case wins.

Your life falls into shambles.

All of you and your friends have told on one another to save yourselves.

Your wife leaves you.

You’re fired.

You’re on the way home from the initial hearing, BAM! Car accident, because you were so depressed by the entire situation and weren’t paying attention.

The car accident left you paralyzed.

Nobody visits you…. In jail. While paralyzed.

Furthermore, your beautiful Paulson are taken, because you let the host who had the raked game use them once. They are now evidence tagged as a “gambling device” and will be auctioned.

And your dog died. From sadness. Because you left.

There’s a movie script in there somewhere….

No

Nor would I ever play in a raked game
++1 this ^^^^

Couple of reasons.
  1. I live in VA, and that'll probably get your game raided quicker than anything else. Hosting a regular game in VA is technically illegal, but everybody does it and they turn a blind eye. However, you take a rake, then piss the wrong person off or have sore losers, all bets are off.
  2. Poker is a social event for me. I don't personally care if people rake or don't rake, but it's no longer social IMHO when it starts feeling like a casino.
Just my 2 cents :)

Oh yeah...++1 this ^^^ as well...LOL!!

This is the typical response you will get when asking this sort of question here - i run a game, do NOT take a rake, but people will venmo me $50 bucks a piece to cover the dinner and drinks i buy, and they will tip out the dealer if they win. i think even the tipping of the dealer at the end is potentially considered illegal but it's the only line i will walk because in spirit i think it's stupid for this to be illegal. Otherwise, I know a lot about raking games from people i know in the LA poker world and you do it because you don't mind doing something illegal to make a profit.

Nothing big, just 20% up to $10 per hand. If there is an all-in and a call an additional $2. If the players decide to run it more than once, an additional $5 per run.

The seat fee is only $7/half hour.

Beers are $4 for domestic and $6 for craft.

Snacks are only $1 for candy or chips.

Bathroom charges are $5 for dropping a deuce. Peeing is no charge.

Game is 25c/50c $100 max for no limit or pot limit games and $2/4 for limit.

The players feel it is the best value in town! ;)

Almost everything on the internet has almost nothing to do with any of us. Does not mean we don’t or shouldn’t participate if we choose to.

In any case, apply your logic to the OP. If it all is none of our business, why post about the situation at all? Or about anything really?
