Do you prefer 39mm or 43mm chips? (3 Viewers)

Are you talking clay or hybrids??? IF you are talking about hybrids, to me it's a no brainer. In my experience, they feel and handle much better than 39mm hybrids. For them i would choose 43mm any time it was an option. If your talking about clay, then it's kool and they feel like bricks. :cool
It's interesting because there are differences. When PCF started ordering hybrids from sunfly a few years back, there seemed to be a majority opinion that the 43mms with the smaller recess had an amazing feel and noticeably better than the 39mms or the 43mms with the larger size label. To translate to tinas, I'm pretty sure the 43mm greek mold has the smaller recess. Not sure about the web.

That's interesting as I didn't know that but it completely supports how I feel. I think the 43mm Greek (standard 7/8 inlay) handles SLIGHTLY better for me than the 43mm Web (larger inlay) mold. I don't think i have ever shared thar here but felt that way when I was playing with shuffle stacks. I will say it's so minimal that most people wouldn't notice but I shuffle chips every day at work and have a pretty good feel for it.

The theory of better performance with 43mm chips and 25mm recess is greater surface area for contact between stacked chips to increase friction.

No-molds would be expected to perform better than chips with debossed mold, and the line molds (Web and GK) better than others. YMMV.

39mm because they are just easier to store. However, if I ever go 43mm, I would only have 43mms in my collection. I do not my OCD would handle having 2 different size chips at my disposal. So seeing that there are more 39mm options out there, that would be my pick.

Short answer: Both

39mm for the main denoms and 43mm for higher denoms. Makes it feel important once you get that oversized chip.

If I had to pick just one, then 39mm.

I like 39mm overall but I also really like 43mm for the biggest chips only, especially when there’s a step up in digits (ie 500 to 1000 and 5000 to 25000) to really make the 43mm feel big and important.

On cash games.. I'm a big fan of mixed sets as long as the change in chip size is reserved for high denoms that are rare to see on the table.

My Ideal:
39s for low denoms (frac-$25)
43s for high ($100+)

I've done a set with 43s starting at $25, but chip was just too common. Was also a pain for storage solutions given qty of $25s. Still fun though.

I think it would be cool to have a T500 base tournament set where it goes:

500 - 39mm
1K - 43mm
5K - 43mm
25K - 48mm
100K - plaque
I prefer 1 size for tournaments across the board and 39/43 split for cash sets where 1k+ is 43mm. Having 4 chip sizes where 3 of them only have 1 denom would make the rack situation hellish

Oh it definitely wouldn’t be good lol, just “fun” as in like a 3rd or 4th back up set that is used every once in a while lol, definitely not practical.

I like mixing chip sizes in sets too.
As long the upper denoms are the bigger ones ; )
I like to use them as variants in a set with same chip sizes.
Versatile fun!

Bigger is better!! And if anybody tells you different, then I suspect they are smoking crack!!

My favorite set ever!!

If you've never held a barrel of leaded 50mm Paulsons, then you will never know.

I also have a 44mm CPC set, and most of my peeps love them WAY more then my 39mm Paulsons or TRKs.

YES....size matter!! (:
We're these special ordered?

I think that while multiple sizes are fun they’re most useful in cash games. Why? As stacks deepen and stakes raise throughout a session there can be 5-7 denoms in play. In tournaments the big denoms are replacing smaller and there can be as few as 3 denoms in play. I just ordered plaques so I’ll have 3 chip sizes and plaques.

I’m not sure I’d be able to shuffle those… wow they look cool though

I had a barrel of winner club 48mms. or maybe they were 47mm or maybe they were 50mm, I'm not sure. They were spectacular! But they were what convinced me that 43mm was the best size.

36mm don’t feel all that different than the 39mm once they are in play for a bit, assuming they are all 36mm like the tournament sets. The mold is very nice and highly under rated. I have seen sets where the frac was 36mm. Those were neat. If you had 36mm, 39mm, and 43mm all in play, in one cash set, the 36mm will feel tiny in comparison I would think, but no personal experience with it.

What about 36mm ?
I like my 36mm tourney set, but the difference is noticeable the same way it is between 39mm/43mm. I wouldn’t choose the smaller chips over standard or oversized.

It works out well to use 39mm cash chips as bounties for a 36mm set though.

Agreed that the mold is underrated. Since the hat/cane is not as close to the rim as RHC chips they’re less prone to major fleabites. Definitely a good feel to the chip, just on a smaller scale.

I used to have a cleveland tourney 2-table set in 36mm (non-WSOP) and I'm happy I sold it to a friend so that I can still play with them.
