Do you guys bring your chips to friends house if they are hosting, or do you generally keep them at your own place?
If I had a set of custom CPCs made, I would be slightly hesitant which tables I bring them out to as I assume some tables (with large wooden areas for chips) could mar them up a little faster than fully-padded tables?
Curious how much you guys all baby your chips.

Yes, I travel with mine and all chips that I own will or have seen play at my home or other!

Why have chip sets of you aren't going to use them?

The only precaution I take is not sending Paulson chips to other people's homes if I am not doing the transportation. No one thinks hot cars are bad for chips, I know better. Ceramic and bud jones chips don't have this problem. And it is uncommon for me not to handle my chips door to door.

I transport chips to our Tuesday events in racks inside locked hard cases with interior foam padding. If I'm not in the truck, neither are the chips.

Weekly events for almost a year and so far only one $5 chip has gone missing.

I will travel with any of my sets except for my Paulsons. I’ll only bring the other sets if there is a proper table or topper being used.

Ive had some collectable sets that were used sparingly but my main tournament set - Chipcos and my cash set Pauslon CDI are well used at my old games.

I travel with my BW set, leave my Paulsons at home. If I was going to a place that I trusted, knew had good poker tables, etc. (i.e. @MegaTon44's game), I would totally bring one of my Paulson sets, just never had the opportunity.

For the most part, the few hosts who have asked me to bring chips have padded table surfaces with rails. My BCC customs have traveled to meetups with me, but nowhere else.

I usually take my ceramics to people's houses with my PCF topper. For friends who have a Barrington style table I'll take nicer chips with me, as some of the games I've been to are a nightmare with the dice chips. One game in particular they were using a .25 - .50 - $1 - $2 - $5 - $10 - $25...... I was like bruhhhhhhhhhhhh. They weren't even denominated lmao.

My chips travel all the time as there is no place to play at my current home. Working on changing that!

I don’t even use my chips (except for my shuffle stacks) so that prolly means I baby them. Poker is dead where I live, I can only wish I played enough that I could round the edges of mint chips.

This thread reminds me that I really should sell most of my chips, only keep what I actually need when the odd game happens:(

What do you have in the 'potentially for sale' category? Asking for a friend

In all seriousness, do yourself a favor and do some real soul searching before you sell anything. Worst thing you can do is sell a bunch of chips off, only to 2 months later realize you wish you hadn't. This is coming from someone who has many regrets from selling chips...Good luck with whatever route you take!

Yeah I’ve done that a time or two as well, there would certainly be some soul searching before I even say what I’d sell. One of my resolutions for the year was to be more honest with myself what collectables I need. Having a kid has changed my perspective on things, well that and not getting a good game going here. Don’t need many chips I ya don’t play lol.

Oh, Geno is a seasoned traveller down Chip Regret Blvd. :D

Unfortunately this is too true!

So essentially, nobody here is so protective of their CPCs that they won't bring them out to games, only their top-shelf stuff generally resides at their house.
Okay good to know!

Just because you bring your chips to an away game, doesn't mean you don't baby them. I am fairly certain everyone here baby's their chips. I mean we clean them, oil them, take pictures of them... Put that way, they even sound like a baby. I would definitely say I baby my chips, but I wouldn't say anything about they way they are being used if it's something I've seen in a casino. Splash, stack and shuffle away... have fun with them, just don't try to break them intentionally. They are just big boy toys after all.

The old saying 'don't gamble with more than you are comfortable losing' I think needs to be applied more to chipping. If someone is spending so much on chips that they are not comfortable putting them on the felt, maybe those aren't the right chips for them.

I think "Babying" is a relative term. Cleaning, oiling, and pictures isn't babying them to most people on this forum, it would just mean being proud of your purchase.
Not using them as expected by poker playing peers (bringing them to other tabls out) etc. is more what I am referring to. I was trying to gauge the avg forum members protectiveness of their clays on surfaces they don't know.

CPC’s ARE top shelf (especially customs).

As mentioned before, I too will bring my chips most places along as there is a felted, padded table/table topper. I really don’t have any rules with my chips other than don’t slam a stack (more than one chip) down on the table.

No special treatment when it comes to playing cards. Chips are pretty durable. I have some sets I don’t care about as much if there’s real danger of theft/damage. (Empress or Aztar)
